I have just acquired a Model 64-5 (K-Frame, square butt) and am looking for the manufacture year. SN is BRN 2XXX.

Also, will it fire +P ammo (yes I know it will wear quicker) without damaging the firearm, and is there a place to download a manual? Any help appreciated.

Best guess is late '94 to early/mid '95. The "C" prefixes look like they started sometime in '95 with one listing and going strong by '96. Can't help with the ammo...not familiar with the 64.:(

Shoot all the +P ammo you wish ! With the possible exception of the 125 gr version, your M64 will eat 'em up without complaint. (Trouble with the 125 gr loads came mostly in .357 Magnum)

S&W states that any "number" model like the 10, 64, 67, etc. is safe for +P.

The vast majority of late model 64's like the 64-5 were used exclusively with +P, since 130 gr. .38 +P is a popular duty round for both LE and Security companies. The majority of the trade-in 64's on the market now are Corrections or Security trade ins, both of which would have trained and qualified with +P's.

Shoot that 64-5 as much as you want, you'll never wear it out. +P's aren't even close to the pressure of a hot .357. There have been police issued 64's with a documented 70,000+ rounds of +P through them with only minimal armorer maintenance.

Thanks for the +P info folks. I coudn't find anything on the S&W site. I guess I was thrown off by the latest models being marked +P on the barrel. The Model 64 is still being made as the Model 64 +P, so I asked my question.

I'd still like to know what year mine was made though. I guess I can call them.
