Hello all...brand new here!

I have a 36 that I picked up 5 years ago for $200...just got a copy of the SCSW, and it got me thinking...

The 36-7 seems like it was produced for a very short time, is it considered "rarer" than other models?

Also, the serial # is BKN78**...the SCSW only lists them to BKN6905. Is this simply due to a lack of information?

What do you think is the fair value of it now? I would call it 95%...blueing is nice and just a small turn line.

Thanks...great forum here!

$200 is a good price whether today or 5 years ago. Good score on an excellent snubby. I've seen those go for as high as $500 to a low of $250-$300.

I have one also. I never really thought of it as rare but I guess it kinda is considering all the other variations and length of production years. Mine is BNB60xx and is Nov. '92 according to a call to S&W I made. You have to read between the lines, so to speak, with the serial numbers in the SCSW as they don't have a complete verified list so you can get an idea when yours was made.

The 36-7 (the M60-7 was the same for the stainless version, I have one of those too) is the last one made on the old style frame before the stretch to the Magnum frame. They had all tool steel parts and no MIM. The blue finish wasn't as nice compared to the older ones but they were factory rated for +P ammo and have the newer style 1/8" wide front sight and wider rear sight. These features are what make the -7s (both 36 and 60) the most desireable variation of the breed for me. I'll never get rid of mine.

BTW, yours looks to be a square butt, mine is round. I'm really jealous of that fact as I like the way the square butt feels in my hand better with the factory grips and no grip adaptor.

In my neck o' the woods, the square butt guns don't get a lot of attention. Yours looks to be in good condition and would probably sell for $350 or so in the north Texas area.
