Hi all,

I'm new to revolvers and thinking about buying model 63. Tried it today in range and noticed that I couldn't eject shells immediately after shooting. Had to wait bout 1 min in order to ejector to work. Could be because of hot shells expanded?
Is it normal for S&W revolvers?

I have both a current 3" 63 and it's predecessor, the 5" 63. The bulk box Federal 36gr plated HPs practically fall out on their own - even after hundreds of such rounds sent downrange. Shoot a few CCI Stingers or Velocitors, however, and you need that ejector rod. All .22's, long or short guns, bolts, self feeders, or revolvers, seem to have their 'likes & dislikes'. With my revolvers, a 4" 617 and the two 63s, the dislike includes those CCI hot rounds!

Try cleaning the chambers well - without a brush, just repeated wet swipes (Hoppes #9) - allow time for the solvent to work - then dry swipes and repeat until clean. I'm betting your chambers were just dirty. If not, call S&W for a return pre-paid shipping label and let them check it out - it could be just a poorly finished or undersized chamber cylinder - they'll make it right - gratis!

PS Welcome to the forum!

It is a usual complaint about any .22 revolver where you eject all 6 (or more) rounds all at the same time. Depends on the brand of ammo, could be somewhat dirty chambers. The tighter the chambers to enhance accuracy the tighter the chambers to eject. I had a little High Standard .22 Mag, and I had t "smartly" rap the ejector rod against the bench top to eject empties. My K22's and Mod 63 all seem to like the Winchester 333 bulk box ammo. They do not like the Hot 1400+ fps stuff. Standard vel. 1200 fps or less seems t work best.

Polishing the chambers can help. Put a bit of Flitz or Mothers Mag Polish on a patch and wrap around a fiber brush and use in a cordless drill. Never going over medium speed give the chambers a good polish.

I have shot bricks of Federal 550 PAK through my 617, and never an issue. Always ejects.

I also have an LCR22. I have been Concealed Carrying it some with Stingers. My experiance with the Ruger.

Federal 550 PAK falls out of the chambers, and works great.
CCI Stingers take a Sharp Rap on the ejector rod to eject them. Not a real issue. You can live with it to be able to shoot Stingers out of it.
CCI Velocitors lock up the gun. Aparently a combination of swelling the case, as well as back thrusting into the Shield and staying against it.

I have taken Velocitors out of the LCR22's diet.

SV and some of the milder HV aamo works well in revolvers and ejects readilly. The hotter HV and super velocity ammo will always require more oomph to get the spent cases out of the cylinder.
Of the HV brands available I have found the Federal copper washed HV HP bulk pack ammo to eject without issues.
