S&W 625-6 Mountain Gun

Last night a nice looking 625-6, in 45 ACP, sold for $1104.00 on GunBroker.com

This was clearly the "Market" price for this revolver since someone paid it.

I bailed out passing through $1000.00. I would have liked to have this revolver but was not comfortable at that amount last night.

Is the sale price for this revolver typical for a 625-6?

I bought mine 2 years ago for$595.Thought it was STEAL!

I bought mine new for $525, but that was back in 2001.

Wow!! Prices have really gone up.

Mountain guns have a pretty loyal following and the .45acp and .357 are hard to come by especially if they're in like new condition which I think the one your describing was. I price N-frames $600-800 depending on condition then add about $100 for each sought after variation it has... Aka 3 & 5" barrels, limited production numbers, more rare calibers. That's a simple rule of thumb I've noticed in prices over the past couple years. I personally thought it would go to the 1k mark, but those are gunbroker prices, great place to sell maybe not to buy.

I'll continue to keep my eye peeled for a 625-6.

For some reason the 625-6 just looks more elegant than some of the other 625 series revolvers.

Paid $800.00 for this one a few months ago with no regrets.
I'd been looking for one for a couple years.

I have way too much fascination with the model 625 and the model 25 before it. Most of my needs are met by the .45 ACP and .45 AR variants. Of course a good .45 Colt has its charns too.
 
I paid right at 850.00 for my 625-9 mountain gun in 45 colt.That was after nearly a year of looking for one in my price range .I know it has the lock but it carry's and shoots great.That was fall of 2014.
 
I bought my 625-7 in 45 Colt for less than $500.00 back around 2002-03, I think. Can't remember year....CRS kicking in. Looks like they are now going for between $800 and $900 now.
 
I have a 625-9. Yes, it has the dreaded internal lock and the execrable MIM parts I guess. I ignore the lock and it has been through hundreds of my handloads without any discernible wear...The double action trigger is one of the best I have ever tried and is fully the equal of my Python...It is my favorite N Frame and I have several. I wanted a Mountain Gun in .45 Colt since they came out...I have a four inch 625-3 that is great also. I got the Mountain Gun for a really great price...It was a gift from a good friend. I believe he paid around $700ish for it. It sat in a local gun shop for almost a year and I coveted all that time...My attitude would be if I were affluent and wanted it, $1000+ wouldn't be a problem. I assume there are plenty of people like that bidding on such things.
 
This 625-6 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt was acquired through GB in October 2013 with box, docs, etc. Since then auction prices have really taken off, and it seems that N-frames in general have jumped up over the past year or so. I'm searching high and low for a 5" 629-4 Classic, just haven't found it yet.

In general, I see them going for about a grand these days. The pre-lock guns were made in relatively limited numbers - so they're not cheap. I own one in .357 and one in 45 LC. They are both great shooters and lend themselves to convenient carry given their half-lug barrel profile.

I follow Mountain Guns on the auction sites and at this time $950-1100 is the going price. In the spring of 2014 prices went really crazy with all calibers bringing $1200-1700.00. Usually the two highest dollar sellers are the .41 Magnum and .45 ACP with the .45 Colt coming in third and the .44 a distant 4th.. For some reason last spring the .45 Colt 625s were bringing the most money averaging $1500...

Another 625-6 45 acp bought new, and they was some kind of promotional special going on back when. Like the mim trigger and frame mounte firing pin for da shooting. Better yet, it has the step in the cylinder that allows you to (headspace) shoot without a moon clip (had to poke empties out). Not sure if the newest ones have that, but for awhile they were manufactured without the step.
