There was a post on this gun early last week. I have purchased and thought I would attempt to post a couple of photos.
On my screen they look small but hope when I submit they will be larger.
Anyway this is a mystery gun to me. It is a 65-3 with a 3" barrel; square butt; DA only; and a bobbed hammer.
The serial number [according to Roy Jinks] puts it manufactured in August of 1998. The production code on the box [102616] would mean it is only 1 of 10 produced according to the Catalog of S&W's.
Being the skeptic I am I can't believe I am fortunate enough to have run onto such a find.
So....I am sending photos and a "Letter of Authenticity" request to Roy Jinks for validation.
That being said IF and only IF it is the real McCoy somebody venture to guess the value of such a gun?????

Repost of photographs for the 65-3 DAO

Thanks to Hawkeye10 I was able to post photos you can now see.
Still looking for ideas of what this is worth if it is authenticated!

Congrats on that one. I don't know what kind of value to put on it with so few made. I'd probably put it in the safe and let it stay there a while.

65-3

i was skeptical when you first posted it since it seemed to be in the wrong time frame a 65-3 in 1998. well, it is a square butt, you have the box so the model number is correct and Mr Jinks
gives a ship date of 1998. Get a factory letter.Once you have that, i would guess a rare modern piece like that should be $2,000 but thats my educated guess. Great find. Glad my skepticism didnt deter you.

Skeptical

Haris1, I am still skeptical and will be until Mr. Jinks letter confirms the find!
You always hear about these rare finds and say why couldn't that be me.
It's killing me that Roy has about 500 letter requests before me and lord knows when he will be able to get to it.
Oh well, maybe it will be my Christmas present!!!

OK now what is this Model 65 (1 of 10) worth?

Surprisingly I already received my letter from Roy Jinks (thanks Roy) yesterday confirming that this Model 65-3 [1 of 10] is truly authentic! It was a special order shipped to a Turner's Outdoorsman Inc. in Chino, CA in August of 1998.
That all being said would someone venture to give me a guesstimate of its value in what I would consider 98-99% condition.
Thanks!!!
