Problem with Governor - with 410 shotshells
I bought a new Governor this week and have experienced some problems with a box of Remington Premier STS Target Load, 2 1/2", #9 shot. About 1/3 of the shells did not go off and there was a light firing pin indentation on the primer.
After that experience I bought a box of Federal 410 000 Buck shells made for handguns but have not had a chance to go back to the range to see if I get any misfires with those. Has anyone else had this problem, is there a difference between the shells and short of sending it back for service (I've only had the gun a few days and don't want to send it with some fishing trips coming up - snakes) is there anything I can do to remedy the problem - if there really is a problem.
45 Colt and 45 ACP cartridges work great everytime, only the Remington shotshells have given me a problem at this time. Total rounds shot are less than 50 of the cartridges and one box of 25 shotshells of which I have 8 misfires.
Thanks, Don

It could be the shells. I've had such bad experience with 22 rimfire from Remington over the past dozen years, and this summer a friend on my trap team had misfires with Remington STS 12 Ga. I don't trust Remington and haven't bought any in a couple years now.

I'd check the strain screw for tightness - it should be tight, ie, all the way CW from the gripframe front view. You must remove the grips to get to it. I hope this helps -my Governor has worked flawlessly from day one in early June, 2011.

They don't work for squat in my governor. The slugs worked fine for me, but their bird shot stunk up the joint.
All logo aside, I had similar issues, and the ones that did fire expanded so much they were difficult to extract. Along with Estate loads, as well.
I stick with winchester and federal now.

Let's wait until you try different ammo...the natural course of problem solving.

I have seen this with Taurus Judge as well as H&R / Nef single shots. The rims on some Rem 410s are thin and some are slightly under OD and will go through the extractor on the single shot shotguns. Only late manf Rem.
The WIn, Fed and older Rems ok.

An extended firing pin might help. It wouldn't cost much to try. I prefer the Power Custom ones.

Never had an issue with my Governor regardless of the ammo that I ran through it.

I never had a Remington factory 12 Ga. load not go off in any of my shotguns.
I do however use only Winchester in my .410 shotgun and never had a problem with their 209 primer.
Best check out the revolver for problems.

I'm probably not any help as my ammo is from a stash that's several years old so not able to comment on current manufacture but the 2 governors I've owned have been flawless with all ammo brands, both shot shell and pistol.

He said it's for snakes on a fishing trip. I bet a couple of those would still discourage a 2 legged snake, anyway.

Bird shot loads jam up the cylinders, for my Governor. I haven't had any problems other than that.
