I think I am a S&W addict I need some help this probably sounds stupid but I love the 44 magnums I so far have the 629 stealth hunter the 329AK the 329pd and a 629 V-comp, I have other Smiths as well and some Rugers, but those are my 44's S&W.I am thinking of getting the 629 6"competitor and 629 PC 2-5/8" to round out my collection.

This is probably blasphemy but I have a Taurus Ragin Bull 6" 44 that shoots great of course the trigger sucks compared to the Smiths but it was the 1st 44 I bought myself couple years ago guess I got lucky and got a good one.. I cant bring myself to sell any gun so I was feeling guilty about getting the 6" Smith when I have two that are almost the same thing in the V-comp and Stealth hunter.

I also am waiting for my Ruger Bisly hunter 44 to come in next week I am going to cut it down to 5" is the 629 competitor a waste at this point ...I can easily justify the 629 PC 2-5/8" barrel :D but the 629 competitor is a siren song I am not sure I would use it other then look at it but I might :D Is there ever such a thing as to much of a good thing? I am on the fence about the 6" Smith.

More is better. I only have one 44 Magnum (629 Mountain Revolver). I've never even shot a 329. What I really want is an Airweight 460 4 inch for a duty gun. Current policy is 3 inch barrel minimum and no bigger than 45 calibre so my 4inch 500 doesn't"t qualify. It does feel a little heavy anyway. I can and have carried it off duty. I don't think I would ever have to shoot anybody twice with either one.

I have the SW 629 V-comp.[I like it] The 629 6in. Competitor. I love that gun. If you didn't have any and was asking witch one should i buy ? I would say 629 competitor. The 629 PC 2 5/8 . I just bought that Friday but didn't pick it up yet.
I would get the 629 PC over the 629 Competitor. Only because you have the V-comp..
Just buy both !!!!
Can I ask you what's the price on the 629 PC ? New ?

I have only 2 44 mags a 629-1 with 4" barrel and a ruger redhawk 7.5" barrel. I had a gunsmith do a trigger job on the redhawk and now single action breaks clean at 3.2lbs using my trigger scale. My 629 always had a great trigger and single action breaks at 3lbs even. I have the 4" to carry back packing and the redhawk for hunting. This combo works great for what I need. I also reload. So if I have plinking and target shooting I load up some medium loads and hunting hotter loads. IMO hotter loads in the 4" just are not enjoyable anymore (I have been retired 9 years now) but are "no sweat" thru the redhawk.

I say get it even if you have 20 44 mags. It is a great shooting gun. I'm a 44 junkie like yourself and i already had 6 when I picked it up and I don't regret it at all...and neither will you!

Do it!

Thats a heck of a carry gun  I have a 460V I love that pistol very versatile. I would hate to shoot it in a Airweight frame and shooting 357 in my 340mp doesnt bother me but I think I draw the line on a Airweight 460 :D good luck.

Hi thats awesome you got all 3 I have decided I need all 3 as well a trifecta of cool if you will  I which one shoots better the Vcomp or Competitor? If you could only keep one which one would that be? The 629 pc I was looking at was 999. The Competitor was 1300. I can only get one this year have to get the other one next year. Thanks again.

Well I like long barrels, more accurate. With the competitor I have a magna-ported custom shop Anaconda, 629 classic, taurus raging bull, ruger SB Bisley hunter, Dan Wesson 744, Desert Eagle Mk VII, and my favorite to shoot is a Winchester 94. The nicest trigger would have to be the Dan Wesson, but it could have a trigger job as I bought it used. After that would be the competitor and SB (single action of course). I was really surprised that my anaconda wasn't as good as I hoped it would be for a custom shop gun. Don't get me wrong, it's got a very nice trigger, but the Dan Wesson, competitor and SB are just supper nice triggers.

.44 Smiths are fun or beautiful or both. If you don't have one of each you still need more. I have the two shown and a blued Classic in the velvet lined wooden box with tools that I purchased for investment. The 629s are fun to shoot. I got the Backpacker in January. Took it to the range and found out I just couldn't handle the double action. Considered sending it to the factory for an action job on warrenty, but decided to send it to the PC for an action job. Also asked the PC to replace the main spring with an 80% spring. They also replaced the hammer rebound spring. All for $104.00. Action is great! Like my PC Hunter.

SW 629 Competitor ! That gun is on the money. Shooting 44 mag buffalo bore feels like 38s. I bet that gun can hit a bullseye
at 100 yards. I never took the weights out. I can't get the allen screw loose. That's the only thing i can say bad about the gun.
I paided about $1300 last year. It's a lot of gun for the money
If i had to sell all my guns and keep only one. That's the gun i would keep...
