Default Smith 22-4 case hardened what's fair but price?

I know someone selling a close to NIB Smith Classic with the lock and I don't believe it's a PC gun model# 22-4 with 4 inch barrel and the case hardened frame. I am not sure what a good price to pay is. Sku#150187. Any ideas on a fair price for me to pay? Thanks all.

They typically sell for $700 to $800 dollars. When priced higher they tend to remain unsold.

The one I saw had a s/n of DBN035X and a ship date of Nov 21, 2007. It's probably a Heritage Series gun but it wasn't in a HS gold cardboard two-piece box. It was in a regular blue plastic box with round corners. Don't remember the asking price, but it sure looked nice. It had the lock and probably the new style frame. I wish they would make these Heritage Series guns without the lock and on an old-style frame. But that's a whole 'nother can of worms.

Default Pardon my ignorance....

I've never heard of a case hardened frame. Is it stronger besides being harder??

It is case hardened colored, (a Treatment) as a trigger or hammer is on a blued S&W. It is various colored blue, brown, gray. Not too attractive to me, but to each his own. Bob

On the case hardened frame you need to take care of it as they do rust even with the change of seasons and humidity. They are beautiful but oil is a must.

Thanks guys. It's unique which is what attracts me to the case colored frame, plus no longer offered. Probably not a real practical gun for all the time use but I like different when it comes to Smith. I haven't seen too many of them and I agree it's almost funky looking, but again neat and more rare. Funky, rare, neat and not so common are guns that usually hold some value.

If it is dated to 2007 it is probably a "Classic" series. Heritage series were produced much earlier. Heritage series do not have the ILS.

The Smith 2007 catalog does list it as a Classic so Macinaw is correct.

I've seen HS guns as late as 2011. But you're right about the lock. All the HS's I've seen had no ILS, even though all but one were from the lock era. I never made the connection until you pointed it out. Were some HS guns made as 5-screws, as well (like the one shown above)?
