Anyone shot Governor with 45acp made by freedommunitions? Any issues with it? I am getting this revolver soon this week and I have couple of thousands of freedom's 45acp ready for my Sig P220, hope no issues with Governor and I could share these rounds.

I know nothing about the ammo in question. If it functions fine in your Sig, why question it in your S&W? My 625JM will eat any 45ACP I put in it. Should not be a problem Bob

The Governor shoots 2 1/2" 410, 45 LC and 45 ACP (using moon clips). I haven't personally used Freedom in mine, but everything I have used worked perfectly.

It shoots both plus 410 s , I have found the gov. is deadly at 50 ft. with 45 long colt , 45acp with moon clips you get a couple with the gun, the accuracy is amazing with the 45LC

do you know what a Governor REVOLVER is ? to the OP no .45 Colt or .410 shells.

I think the question is: Do you?

The Governor, as stated, shoots .45C, 410 ga, and .45 ACP (with clips).

To the OP: Any SAAMI spec ammunition of the above calibers will be fine in your Governor.

Adios,

Since you already have the ammo, I wouldn't worry about it. I would bring a pencil and maybe some pliers, to make getting the casings out of the moon clips easier.

That said WHAT A FUN GUN TO SHOOT!!!

And while you're at it, make sure to bring a pair of channel-locks and a rubber hammer, in case you get a flat on the way to the range.

For Pete's sake, get the right tool for the job...

...and to load the clips...
Deluxe Moon Clip Tool

Now go out and have fun.

I am surprised many of you don't know that this is biggest plus of Governor (45acp), I believe it is much cheaper than other two allowed. I don't like to introduce new caliber in my collection, 6 types is enough.

Correct, thanks!

I never own revolver before, Sig is Ok but freedom is reloaded ammo and warranty voider for many companies including Sig. Some people having issues with it, I personally never. It is amazingly good so far in 9, .223, 40sw, 45acp. Free shipping most of the time!

+P?

If the reloaded ammo is +P, may be an issue but otherwise "What difference does it make"! I don't know what s&w says, but the barrel is not marked for +P.

For those that reload, since the Governor uses moonclips does it make sense to use a roll crimp for faster/smoother reloads? I've noticed it takes a wiggle to get the 6-round load to fall home with a standard taper crimp. Obviously these would have to be kept separate from semi-auto rounds, and it would shorten brass life.

Since 1957 (when they started assigning model numbers) S&W's have been approved for +P ammunition.

Easier to chamfer the charge holes of the cylinder than to run separate batches of ammo sorted by crimp type.

I won't use it.

My wife's 642 specifically indicates "+p" on the barrel. The S&W manual, that came with my Governor, doesn't prohibit +P but states "“Plus-P” (+P) ammunition generates pressures in excess of the pressures associated with standard ammunition. Such pressures may affect the wear characteristics or exceed the margin of safety built into some revolvers and could therefore be DANGEROUS."
