HOW DO THESE ALL COMPARE TO EACH OTHER...?.....IN PARTICULAR THE 586 AND SECURITY SIX ? I KNOW ITS A BIG QUESTION BUT IM VERY INTERESTED. I JUST PICKED UP A SECURITY SIX ( 4 INCH )AND THE DA TRIGGER IS EXCELLENT , ABOUT AS GOOD AS MY 19 ( IVE HEARD THE SECURITY SIX TRIGGER ISN`T SO GREAT , I DISAGREE , AT LEAST WITH THIS PARTICULAR ONE).....AND IT SURE FITS MY HAND RIGHT. THAT SAID THE MODEL 28 (6 INCH) IS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE REVOLVERS IVE BEEN ABLE TO SHOOT....

THANKS

Wow...loaded question..

First, in my experience the Security 6 is similar in size to the m19. My brother had a 4" Sec-6 and it was a very accurate revolver. Trigger wasn't terrible by any stretch, but I found it not as silky smooth as my 19-3. IMHO, it's a very good quality 357 on a budget compared to the price of the average P&R m19. And I do like Rugers cylinder release almost as much as Smiths. They actually designed it to be easy to use with a push down on the lock rather than awkwardly pulling back with the thumb like Colts which I find cumbersome..just me and my taste.. nothing whatsoever against the Ponies....

I have a 4" m19-3 and I absolutely love this revolver for easy to carry horsepower. I know it has been said over and over again, but the balance of a 4" K-frame is as close to handgun heaven as it gets. Everything about my 19 is everything it should be. Silky smooth DA pull, amazingly light yet crisp single action. I wish my Remington 700 deer rifle had a trigger like my m19!

586 is going to be larger framed and heavier. The L-frame Smith is as rugged as it is pleasing to the eye. Just decide if you like blue (586) or stainless (686).. or both! ;) My first Smith was a 6" 686. An absolute pleasure to shoot and handles stout magnum loads with ease and comfort compared to lighter framed 357's. Downside is they are a bit heavier if comfort during long term carry is something you require. Also obviously a bit less concealable due to their larger size.

Now the 28... My new favorite Smith 357. I no longer have my 686.. Still plan to procure another L-frame down the line.. But I replaced it with a 6" m28-2 Highway Patrolman. The m28 being the flat, non polished finish is a more utilitarian than it's much prettier sister the m27. This N-frame is about as rugged as it gets for 357 with few exceptions. The sheer size of the N-frame platform gives you super thick chamber walls and a forcing cone that I'm sure can take many thousands of rounds of full house mags with a smile. The first time I fondled my 28-2 at the LGS I was intrigued, the first time I fired it I was in love. Stoutly loaded mags feel like 38spl out of almost any other 357 revolver. But like the L-frame 586 and 686, the N-frame is big... It will be a bit heavier than the L-frames and naturally that much more to conceal.

Basically, this is just one man's opinion and worth what you paid for it. But what you have touched on is that there is a 357 mag out there for just about every possible need or desire. It's all up to you to figure out what you want.

M-19 is K frame, .357 Magnum. M-586 is L frame, .357 Magnum. M-28 is N frame, .357 Magnum. Ruger ??
I own and have owned all three of the Smith and Wesson frame sizes, and enjoy shoot each one. To me each size serves a different need/use. K Frame carry a lot shoot a little. L frame carry some, shoot more. N frame carry seldom, shoot full tilt .357 Magnum ammo all day long.
Rugers have a reputation for being good strong no-nonsense revolvers, that are not finished as nicely as Smith and Wesson revolvers.

I own at least one of each... and they are all good.

Out of all of them, I personally shoot my L-frames best, so I like them best.

Before I picked up the Ruger, my latest, I'd heard that they don't have the triggers that Smiths do. I've heard some say that a DA Ruger revolver isn't really a DA revolver. But, at least the example of the Security Six in my possession has a great trigger, both DA and SA. Maybe I got lucky with mine, maybe it's been well broken in, or maybe it's had work done on it, but I have no problems with that trigger whatsoever. I wouldn't say it's quite as refined as my Smiths, but still, there's not a thing wrong with it.

Smith's are prettier for sure, though, and for me, they feel a bit better balanced and feel better in the hand.

In simple terms the Model 19 and the Security Six are most similar in terms of weight and size. The 586 is one step bigger and heavier while the Model 28 is positively huge by comparison (weight and size).

for carrying the 19, for shooting the 586. the ruger, well it'a a ruger.

The Ruger will fire anything you can fit in the chamber and will carry well in a k frame holster. As much as I hate to say it , the security six is stronger then the 19. Never used the 586 but the 28 is a gem just not for me for all day carry.

I currently don't have a K frame magnum. Have a 586, and 686 (1 4", 1 6") Have a 6" 28 no dash. Had a Security Six. Never shot it much, didn't do much for me. My 28 is my 1st .357. Good shooter and a tank. To me, L's, other than carry, are ideal. Most of my shooting is range steel target time. Bob
