Cost of 642 vs 442
I'm trying to figure out why the 442's are listed as more expensive than the 642's? My understanding is the 442's have carbon steel cylinders and barrels...........642's are stainless. Please help educate me.

The MSRP is the same. Smith & Wesson - Compare Products
At the shops I frequent, both models are priced identically but, priced below the MSRP.
But, the 442 "Moon Clip" has a coated SS cylinder that has been cut/milled for moon clips.
Product: Model 442 Moon Clip

Ditto on 642 and 442. The 442 and 642 pro (moon clip) are $20 more. For the $20 I went with the 442 pro, I like its black pvd coated barrel and cylinder. ;-)

It must be a "local" thing. It's been a couple of months since I was at LGS, but the 442's were about $20 higher. Just now checked Bud's Gun Shop..............plain vanilla 642 is $381 and 442 is $389.
I guess the answer is, if MSRP is the same, a person should be able to buy either for the same $.
I've been wanting a 442 to keep my 642 company.

Hah! I've been pondering the opposite--I have a 442 and would like to also acquire a 642.
