I am interested in possibly buying the 460 bone collector. Does anyone own it or know something about the pistol? Ihave the 44mag hunter and really like it but wondering how much more accurate at 100 yards it would be (460 that is)

I don't have the bone collector but I have the 460 xvr PC 6.5 inch barrel. I know at 100yd these guns can be tack drivers. I have shot deer free hand at 100yd and from 150 yd with a shooting stick. I beleave any of the 460 with the longer barrels will shoot great at 100yd. Good luck in what ever you choose.

The accuracy will lie with the shooter, I have shoot a number of 3 round touching groups at 100 yards of the bench with the 460.
I have all the barrel lengths and none are lacking in accuracy.

Look at the ballistics and that should answer the range capabilities.

The 7.5" Black hunter is the same as the bone collector minus the shroud and graphics ( which don't have any bearing on the accuracy).

Good luck and be safe

While I don't have the "Bone Collector", I have the equivalent P.C. 10.5'' Compensated Hunter. I also have a Lew Horton P.C. 629 "Magnum Hunter". Both are incredibly accurate for handguns. Difference in 100 yards is the difference in holdover between the two. I consider the .44 mag a 75-80 yard deer revolver. I consider the .460 a 125-150 yard deer revolver.

You can check my thread if you like on my 460 Bone Collector. IMHO the above noted Black Hunter is a 44 and an N Frame Smith and other than that appear the same. At any rate the 460 Bone Collector of mine (#156) is out of site and a pleasure to shoot. I'm in process of uploading the vids I took of a complete range report to view. That should be ready in a few day as time allows. Great gun! -freezer

Thanks for that sw282.
Incidentally, I called S&W with a few questions for customer support a couple weeks ago. It came up that the trigger and hammer receive the same treatment that you described. fb
#%€^+][!! I'm having trouble getting my iPhone vids uploaded so I can link them here so bare with me. -fb

Of the 460 Bone Collectors' there were 1500 (I have #156). As for the other models noted in this thread I have only learned of them here Upon discovering this thread. Be cool, freezerburn

The Black Hunter I am referring to is a 460 not a 44 N frame.
Plenty of pictures have been posted here in the past.

I have now acquired several Bone Collectors and and there is no noticeable difference in performance between them and the older Ellet Brothers Black Hunter 7.5" (limited run of 500 gun)

To the op I highly recommend the 460 bc, if one comes up snap it up quick. Anything around $2000 without going over I would consider a nice deal. 'burn

Agreed

A helluvagun in all respects. icloud dorked up all my vids or I would complete my review/thread that I recorded. ^^^but those numbers do say it all. What a mule! 'freeze

Supposedly, with the 8 3/8" model, many people have been saying if you zero it at 200 yards your hit will be +/- 5 inches from where you are aiming at 250 yards. Which in my opinion, if you are accurate enough, the benefit of this over a .44 magnum would the capability of a longer range shot. And the round would still have a lot more speed and energy left than that of a .44magnum at this range. My local gun store has a 460 BC with a price tag of $1,699.99

Here is a little sample of how accurate the 460 Bone Collector is. This is 100 yds. off of a bench. 5 shot group, pulled one shot and it was not in the picture. Was 4 inches away from the group. The other 4 shots were 1-1/4" group almost MOA Iam sure the pistol is far more accurate than I am able. :)
