Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of a 315 Night Guard as a carry or collectable revolver?

I was also curious if anyone had a rough estimate on the value of one in pretty good shape, w/out a box.?

Thanks, in advance, for the information/help.

I saw one at a LGS a month ago...was marked marked $999....no box .....that was a little high.....I think it would be a great carry piece....lightweight, those neat rear sights, I should have bought one when they were in production. Someone will jump in that has one....

The NGs have a cult following so prices can be high, but they sell for a wide range of prices. Anything from $800 and up is fair. The 10mm are harder to come by.

If memory serves, there were less 315s produced than any revolver in the Night Guard "series." So, finding one for sale with a price of less than $1000 might be a bit of a challenge.

I have a 325 NG that I bought in 2008. The sights are nice. S&W should be using those sights on other revolvers. The front sight on my NG is much better than the front Trijicon on my model 60 pro. The front sight on the pro-series model 60 is almost useless in the dark. Overall the NG is a great carry gun. The only complaint I had was with the grips it came with. The original rubber grips were uncomfortable and made the reach to the trigger too long. I've since gone to service grips by S&W and they feel good but don't help with the recoil of a .45 ACP round.

I am not sure about that. The Night Guard in 10mm is fairly scarce as well and seems to be bringing a big premium when and if they pop up for sale. Several have sold in the $1500 range on GB over the last year or so. The 315s are rare but the relative availability factor of other NGs that are shot in the 38 Special range time where most get their workout keeps the prices down a bit. David

I believe the 315 was the least produced NG. If not, close. There are just not many around and they rarely come up for sale. If you watch the NGs on GB you hardly ever see a 315 come up. Maybe a few times a year. Expect to pay a premium for a 315. Maybe as much as $1500.

You are better off getting a 386 NG. It is a 7 shot 357 L Frame model. Much more common and less expensive. You can pick up a nice one for $800 no problem.

Thanks much for all the answers. I had located one for a pretty good price and hopefully will have it on my doorstep by this time next week. The place that had it said they don't believe it had been fired, outside of the factory, but there is no box/etc... with it. I have dealt with them before and usually their evaluation of the weapons they sell is pretty spot on.

I should be into it for around $800.00 by the time it is shipped and picked up so figure I did okay. This has been one of those that I have chased for a few years and always just missed out on getting it so was pleased when I found it at the price I did.

Thanks again!
(I know the mantra so if I can get a decent pic when it comes in I will follow up here with it)

In new condition with everything $800 is a steal. You did very well on that 315.

You're right about the 310s, they do bring the big money. I've been keeping my eye out for one at a decent price. I can't convince myself to pay $1500 for one. I guess I don't want it bad enough. I do wonder how many 310s were built. I think there were less than 700 315s produced.

If I could find one I would buy it at anything less than $1k. It's a fantastic carry piece.
A model 12-2 in 2" is the only comparable K-frame ever in the lineup as far as I know.

Northwest Pony Express in Couer D' Alene Idaho has a 315 NG listed for sale at $750. It is described as test fired only, with no box. They are closed on Sundays but their website shows pictures of the revolver.

Not any longer. :) That was the one I was looking at and it arrived today. It truly does look to be unfired (except for factory) or very lightly fired. Pics attached. Once again from cell phone and not the best.

Serial # DCK0508
Following the Serial in smaller print: 8152

In the box:
Red Cable Lock in bag w/2 keys Number on lock 601001
1 Key to the Hillary Hole in a small bag
Safety & Instruction Manual: Revolvers -Modern Style-
Fired Cartridge dated: 05-31-08

You did very well at $750. In my opinion the 315NG is probably the finest Lady Smith Revolver made to date. While not marketed as such, it is Light enough to carry, and Big enough to shoot well. Smith & Wesson should have kept either the 315NG or a revised Model 12 in the pipe line.

I did have a 310NG. I never came across any production numbers on them.

Sweet!!! Huge score at $750.

Looks great.

Glad you got it instead of me. I'm sure my wife appreciates it.

While I don't have to worry about my wife being upset the Orange Money Retirement guy is upset because I keep converting all my retirement money to Smith and Wesson Blue money!
