Hi,
i'v been offered a S&W 627-2 in reasonable good shape. What i'm wondering about that weapon is, that it's a 6 shooter.
All 627th i know are 8 shot... so what is ist about?
It is from the PC and it's without a lock, too
Thank you for your help
best reg, DD

That is an interesting one. I have never seen a slab sided barrel, or read of one on a 627-2 stamped frame. The 627-2s are full underlug barrels and 6 shot unfluted cylinders and are not Performance Center made. The picture shows a non standard rear sight and grips that look like Nill. Could it be a gun for European export?
There are a good many different 627 guns, ranging from the original 627, the slightly changed 627-0 on up to the 627-5, the current production model with 8 shot unfluted cylinder. The -5 has been around for around 14-15 years. Is there a box with the SKU number on it?

Hi,
but as you can read on the Barrel it says: "Performance Center"...
I found it in italy
I have no further details but i will try to get the serial number from the dealer and then i will post it here.

edit: the dealer will not tell me the serial :-(
he says it is an original 627-2 Performance Center 5" LL, Kal.357Mag

This is a very interesting 627 that I thought did not exist as a factory gun. At least I have never seen or heard of one. That said, the SCSW has a reference in the 627 listing to Product Number 170123, described as "5"; six-shot profile barrel, fluted." This appears to fit that description. The 627-2 is a non-PC 6-shot round barrel with full length ejector shroud under lug circa 1998 edition, concurrent with the 627-PC 8-shooters with profile barrels. Guns of this era were shipped by S&W to WISCHO in Germany, so I would think this hi-bred looking gun would have German proof marks on it. WISCHO would have added the Nill furniture. Congratulations on a rare find. I hope you get it and when tired of it sell it to me. Short of that, I would love to add its serial number and all particulars to my data base. Thanks for sharing.

i have new information:
The Serial starts with WTMxxx (and then 4 numbers)
New Pictures are also on the way.
After thinking a lot and talking to a lot of people my opinion is, that someone changed the 8 shot cylinder for a 6 shot. but is that possible? Who does such terrible things?

It is not possible to convert a 8-shot revolver to an 6-shot so it must have been made that way.

This is my 8-shot 627-3, notice the cylinder flutes and the space between them and compare it to yours.

If you found this gun in Italy via internet, where are you? The movement of a firearm in Europe will be challenging and even moreso if you try to move it to USA. Nightowl and mokuloa are right in believing this 627-2 is a euro model. IPSC in Europe allows only 6 shots from a revo between reloads.

OP, if you do buy this gun post some better pictures. Also, more details on the s/n and other markings. I've never seen a "WTM" s/n prefix, it must be unique to this series of export guns. The "W" likely stands for Wischo GmbH, Erlangen, Germany, as other posters have stated.

"TM" any guesses?

I missed the second post about Italy. It is quite possible that S&W made a unique variation especially for the European market. I certainly haven’t seen one like it before.

i'l have good pictures at hand soon. tomorrow, i hope.
here they are... :-)

It appears that your S&W was a variation made for overseas sales, possibly exclusive to the European market. From your photos the rear sight doesn’t appear to be the normal type either. Perhaps it is an aftermarket sight, it’s hard to tell from the pics. Very interesting 627 – congratulations!

Hi,
it's still not mine, i'm just guessing what to do.
i always wanted a 627 8 shot.
the gun is in perfect shape, timing is perfect ,only shot a few times (so says the dealer)
it's a PC, the price is not so bad, what else can i request? (except that i want an 8 shot, did i mention that already?) ;)

Well good luck DD. That's a fine revolver. It is theoretically possible to convert it to a 8-shooter but extremely difficult. You would first have to locate a gunsmith willing and able to do the job. Then it would cost you a whole bunch of money to pay him/her to do it. The problem is the barrel has to be reset to a higher position in the frame to accommodate an 8-shot cylinder. Once the job was done you'd have a gun few people would pay for since the alterations would destroy collector value.

I know this because I had this conversion done on a Model 28 20 years ago. I still own the gun. After I got it, S&W finally started making factory 8- shooters.

Just keep looking for an original factory 8-shot. They're not scarce.

As a big 627 fan, I would grab that one in a minute!!! It is an unheard of variation, at least to me. Unless I hear something from another member, I would go out on the limb and say that no 627-2s like that was sold in the U.S. Get it for your collection and keep looking for an 8 shot.

If you don't mind sharing, what's the s/n Mr. Duck?

No box, right?

As the gun still does not belong to me, i have no idea about the s/n.
box? to be honest, i don't know, too.
but anyway, it is mine now :-)
i still will keep looking around for an 8 shot, but for this one, i couldn't resist.
It will take some time before i will hold it in my hands (because to export/import issues) but i will post the s/n as i know it.
