What owb holster do you use for your 340/360 j frames? mine 360J won't fit in any of my 642 holsters because of the barrel profile. Thanks

I carry my 340PD in a Kramer horsehide belt scabbard, it holds up very well in the heat and rain of Florida's summer weather.

Maybe I'm missing something, but aren't the 340/360 J frames the same size as the other J frames?

Edmo

Frames are the "bull" barrel is taller and thicker than my 442/642, won't fit into my favorite holster.

Not having the keyboard skills, let me answer 2 different posters at once. Re holster: Mernickle Holsters in Northern Nevada makes a great forward-tilt scabbard for J-frames. It will securely anchor new- and old-style J-frames, and also the thicker top strap of the 340 and 360.

Edmo, yes, every J-frame should be alike, but they are not. The new "magnum" frames are a smidge longer; you can even see this in the suede clip IWB pouches I prefer. The trigger guard of the new-style Js protrudes a hair more than that of the original Js. As I said above, the top strap of J-mags is thicker top-to-bottom than that of the .38 models. Also, some rigs are shaped (is the term 'boned'?) "too" precisely, that is, for a specific gun only.

For a J-hound, it's all a lot of fun!

"New" is relative. The J magnum frames have been in use for almost 20 years, since '96 IIRC, I'm pretty sure that most, if not all, current J frame holsters are being made to J magnum frame specs.

The J frame holsters that I have hanging around at the moment - a JW O'Rourke belt scabbard, a leather Blackhawk, a Blackhawk Serpa, and a leather Safariland - all fit my 360J, 317, and 637 Wyatt Deep Cover just fine.

That said, I almost never wear a J frame on my belt, except when qualifying. I normally use a no name leather wallet style pocket holster I picked up at a gun show or a Renegade ankle holster, both of which accommodate all of my snubbies, as well.

BTW, I've had that O'Rourke for a long time and 10 years or so ago, when I had a 642, it fit in it as well.

Absolutely correct. "New" IS relative. Just goes to show how old most of my holsters are. And, for that matter, much else of what is in my home!

I guess I should have said the holster I mentioned isn't tightly form fitted around the barrel area...

It easily carries my 642, 640 Pro Series with it's bigger barrel, as well as my no dash model 60 with it's "non-magnum" frame.

edmo: Don't sweat it. You're a J-hound, even if you don't know it. Membership card should arrive. Sometime...

QUESTION: Your 60: is that one of the 1980's era Jovino square-butt guns, or is that a RB-SB grip?

Yup, I am quite smitten with the little guns...

My 60 no-dash isn't really mine. I bought it for the wife back in the mid 1980s. It is a true square-butt, however I don't know any details beyond that. She liked the feel of the square grip better than the rounded ones, so square it is. The wooden grips actually feel really nice with the T-grip.

It is also only rated for standard pressure ammo and has the wee bit shorter frame of the non-magnum J's. It is a good shooter with a smooth action.

About three years ago it had to make a trip back to the mothership to have a new hammer pivot pin pressed into the frame. You can see the exposed pin in the hole near the cylinder release. It came back from S&W with a smoother trigger than when I sent it in.

I agree with SHELL627

I picked up a Don Hum JIT Slide for my 360J and it works well.

Had an XS reg. size dot put on it and converted to 9mm but haven't sprung for a custom holster yet.

Have to finish the reliability check first to see if it will become a carry gun.

Love it so far.

Andrews Custom Leather Saddle Style pancake - without a doubt.

Nicely suede lined, extremely comfortable all day carry, conceals unbelievably well, & provides effortless presentation.

Minimalist design, but solid construction. Fits both my M640-1, & M&P 340 - like the proverbial glove.

And no, I don't work for the guy, either...

I have 2 Original Lobo holsters for my K snub and Commander and they are great. The holster I use for my 640 nd is a Galco SM122. I think they are called Combat Master now. I really like it. I am fairly certain they make one for your J frame.
