What HiViz sight does the 686+ use

Rather than reboot a 7 year old thread I thought I would start a fresh one. What is the correct HiViz sight for a new 686+ Smith? I have a 3" and a 4" model with the red ramp which can quickly lose its visibility at the range after a couple boxes go through it. My guess is the correct one is either the SW1002-G (green) or the SW1002-R (red) or possibly the SW3001 series. Has anyone switched to this sight on their 686+? If so, is it a huge improvement over the stock red ramp?

Not a 686+, but I did install Hi-Viz fiber optic front sights on two PC revolvers with easily changed blades. There are other Hi-Viz models for revolvers with pinned front blades. They come in several heights. Measure the existing blade from the ramp. Most likely, it will be 1/4".

In the past I've insisted on tritium night sights, but they're not as easily adapted to revolvers. FO sights are highly visible in a wide range of light conditions, even in shooting ranges where a dark blade blends into the target. There are FO rear sights for revolvers as well, but I don't bother with them (so far).

For revolvers in my EDC rotation, I use Crimson Trace grips in addition to FO front sights. That sidesteps the need for true night sights.

I think Hi-Viz sights effectiveness are more susceptible to reduced performance, for the same reasons. That powder soot and residue, will cloud them, and prevent ambient light required to illuminate them. It's cheaper to just wipe the red ramp off every now and then with a rag.
