I'm looking for a set of boot grips for my M&P 340 and like what I see at the Altamont site. Has anyone ordered from them and if so what has your experience been? Is the product good quality and how is their customer service?

Thanks in advance . . .

I have several pairs of Altamont grip for everything from a round to square butt conversion for my Mountain Gun to K/L frames and down to the J frame boot grips you're speaking of. Fit and finish has been great and every pair I ordered has been fairly priced and shipped quickly. I like Altamonts and could recommend them to anyone.

I have ordered two sets of GP100 inserts, and two pairs of K frame grips. I am very pleased with the service, and the quality.

Altamont Grips are descent quality HOWEVER they are NOT what I would call a replacement or substitute for the original grips from a vintage S&W Revolver. They are DEFINITELY different. They are laminated (not solid) and are NOT made of Walnut or Goncalo Alves, they are thinner than that of the originals and to all but a novice would not appear to be what came on vintage Smiths.

If you are simply looking for a reasonably priced set of grips to put on a Revolver, they are fine. If you are looking for a faithful restoration look - don't waste your time or money - go to ebay, GB or a local Gun Show and get a real pair. As long as you don't think they are "originals" they are OK.

Altamont

I agree with what chief38 posted; they are what Altamont intends, a nice, reasonably priced, good quality, and functional grip. I put them on my 64 and I'm very please with them. Very comfortable for this .38 that I shoot frequently:)

I like Altamont grips, I have at least a half dozen pairs, this is my 640-1 with a set of Altamont rosewood boot grips, the fit is great!

Like as been said, these aren't really for matching up to "vintage" S&W's but they work just fine if you want to shoot your S&W with some nice wood on it.

Altmont grips are on some models the original grips. They are on my model 21-4. And Smith techs will readily tell you that they use Almont grips.

They are shiny, and pretty but functional, that works for me. I buy guns to shoot not put in pretty cabinet to ogle, or brag about what I own. I do like some models to look good, doesn't have to be original. In fact some of the original grips that bring prices more than new Alts are down right beaten to death. Nothing wrong with character, but I am not going to pay for it. I am attracted to well worn finish on guns, but paying more for it is not going to happen.

If I want original, and ugly I can do that with a plastic guns, or even inexpensive imports.

Sorry guys, I just never will be a collector, I have all respect for those that do. But give Altmont their due for a quality product at a fair price. And remember that most S&W now come with rubber grips, you should leave those on to be original.

Did you even read the post? Who said anything about a vintage revolver? He wants new grips for an M&P340...

I've gotten a few sets of grips from Altamont, and have liked every single one. Fit and finish has been great, and their prices are very reasonable IMO. A time or two the grips I've ordered weren't in stock, and they were great about sending me a message asking if I wanted to wait, or order a different set. On my most recent order, both sets of grips were delivered in the same box within a week of placing my order.

Altamont boots here on my Taurus 94, Heiser 759 leather, & ammo.
I like them. I have a couple of full size grips also and they are good
too.
I had a Taurus 85 with beautiful Rosewood Altamonts, so when I
traded off the Taurus I kept the Altamonts, thinking they would
fit the 94. They wouldn't. I asked Altamont how come. They
said send them back if you want to. I would say that is pretty
good customer service. (But I didn't sent them back)

I've got nothing but praise for Altamont's - they are on the pricey side but fit near-perfect. There is a tiny gap on the backstrap of the grips shown below - but I could fix that with just a little judicious wood removal ... I have them on J's, K's and L's - they're all good!!

I have owned two sets. Both had a slight bit of wiggle in the fit. I think they're okay for the price. You get what you pay for. I gave them away with guns that I've sold.

My new 627PC came with wood grips and I'm pretty sure they are Altamonts. They fit the gun well and the quality is good, but this particular grip shape didn't fit my hand well. It's a finger groove grip that's pretty deep front to back, but narrower in width.

I checked their website and they have lots of different sizes and shapes. I'm sure they have something that would fit and their prices are good especially if you buy directly from their website.

Altamont grips are pretty good quality. They are laminated wood, not cut from solid wood blanks. Like Walkingwolf mentioned, Altamont are the current supplier for many newer S&W revolvers. I believe they did most, if not all, of the recent Classic series grips, and they are on just about all of the TALO Deluxe models and the 3-5-7 686s. I have a new 686 Deluxe with the Altamont grips and they fit my large-ish hand wonderfully. There is the slightest bit of play between the wood and the frame, but I'm sure a little shim will fill the gap nicely.

Be forewarned that Altamont's are laminated wood.....a nice name for plywood. I don't care for laminated wood , the plwood look just puts me off.
For my money I went with Ahrends....SWEET !

340 boot altamonts

I had a set on M&P340..and if you plan on shooting 357 but still want tiny grips I recommend Hogue bantams. They are just a little too thin at their uppermost area that will impact the web of your hand. They tore up my hand where as the Bantams (rubber style) do not.:D
