"New" Model 60-15, 3", .357 Magnum

Just picked up a nice 60-15 (manufactured in March 2016) used in West Michigan.

I was never going to buy a S&W with a "lock" on it, but I kept walking back to this gun and finally it left with me.

Just got back from the range and am really liking this revolver. A web search indicates that it could be quite unpleasant with full house .357 rounds, but I found it manageable. However, what I really like, is how it handled 125 grn, SJHP, Remington +P ammo. Very accurate and quite pleasant to shoot.

I also found the my only 5 round speed loader works great (I was never trained in the use of these things and so far haven't had great luck with them). S&W must have designed these very nice grips to work perfect with a speed loader.

I guess the "Pro Series" is somewhat in between the regular production guns and the "Performance Center" models. I like the details on this gun and am looking forward to carrying it and a speed loader for normal carry situations.

I did notice that the dreaded undercut of the barrel on Model 19's is missing on this gun. There is no undercut on this two piece barrel system.

Very nice. Great photos. I love my 60-15 but those .357's bite pretty hard.

I have the Hogue tamer grips on my 2" Mod 60. Not too pretty but they do suck up some recoil when shooting magnums. The plastic cap on those particular grips is actually quite useful because it doesn't snag on fabric when you're carrying it on your ankle or concealed under clothing.

I, too, hesitated to purchase my NIB 60-15 because of the dreaded lock but glad I did.....mine came with what appears to be a set of Altamonts but I replaced them with the OEM rubbers.

Great shooter at the range - sights were dead on for me right out of the box - easy to conceal and carry comfortably all day.

My example hasn't given me a bit of trouble in the 1-1/2 years of ownership and, as it's not a collector piece, I don't worry about carrying it daily and giving it some "character".

I have a model 60 Pro series. I didn't know that it has a two piece barrel. Can someone please confirm this?

They were good until Photo Bucket removed them?

I also have the same 60-15. I find it to be an excellent and accurate gun, just right as my woods bumming/fishing companion. I find full power magnum loads to be rather umm, vigorous but 38+P loads are fine. I need to try some Remington Golden Sabre 125 grain loads (+/- 1200 FPS).

For those who find the 60-15 Pro "vigorous" a change of grips is in order.
As the gun gets lighter/kick gets heavier, correct fit of the grip becomes
more important.
I use pachmayr decelerator grip on most all my guns.
The "kick " may be large,but the "pain " is not.
My Pro has seen 180/200 hunting loads and though it moves some distance , it is not painful or hard to hang on to.

Pro 60 on order. Was it a mistake?

I have my Pro 60 on order now. Bought it sight unseen. I have 5 other S&W revolvers, but none of them have that two piece barrel system that this one has. Didn't know it when I put it on order. Should I be concerned about this different or cheaper way of the barrel system? Also, I called S&W about any trigger work to this gun. They said all Pro series and performance center guns have some sort of trigger work. They said this has (I can be wrong with name part) a comb spring.

See my post number 8 above and look closely at the pictures. It is still a one piece barrel.

Just for your information S&W does make some models with 2 piece barrels. Some are even 3 pieces. A lot of people report that those guns are even more accurate than the 1 piece barrel guns. So don't worry about it.

Including pictures of my model 620. A 2 piece barrel gun which is highly accurate.

Can anyone tell me how to tell if a gun has a two piece barrel or not. I have a s&w 60-15 pro & I can't see where it has a two piece barrel. Thanks.

It is not a 2 piece barrel. It is a one piece barrel.

If S&W were to make a Model 60 with a 2-piece barrel, they would likely introduce it as a -16. Advancing the dash number is something Smith has done before when updating a model with the new barrel system. Due to the way a 2-piece barrel mates will the frame, it's basically a new gun.
