Hello,

I have been a member here for 5 years but I was off pursuing other interests. I wanted to get back to my roots of revolver shooting so I started shopping. I was on the fence and strongly considering either a 629 or 686 plus. When it came down to it, I got both. There are some great deals currently and I had some cash so, I made my move.

Reloading for each and enjoying shooting revolvers again.

Very nice. I like the 686/629 combination and also reload for them. I use XTP's for all my revolvers. I went with their baby brother too, the 617 to round things out more, for warm-up and the plinking range. Mine are all 4" as I like the balance. I prefer to use the round-butt aspects of the grip. It causes a roll-up action like a six shooter which I use more often then DA's but they also fit my hands better.

May as well share, top down, 629, 686, 617. The 629 has the best trigger I've ever handled. Not sure why either as it's just a standard factory 4".

Just editing to add: I stripped off the blue/black "shading" from the hammers and blued the triggers fully. It makes things pop a bit and gives a cleaner all around look.

Very nice! I'm of the opinion that if there are two 'must-have' revolver calibers, those are them. I bought the 629 first myself, and will be getting the 686 next.

It is good to be shooting Smith's again.

Something about them.

I do need to get a 4 inch gun. Model 66 or 69 or ???

Time to see what the market supports.

Or, go older and try and locate a 19. Or, model 25?

My auto loaders are crying in the safe.

4 inch 17 would be fun.

Finally! After years of saying it in "should I buy this or should I buy that" threads somebody just went ahead and bought both!
Seriously though, very nice. I prefer a shorter barrel and have a 4" version of each.
You mention a 66 or 69 next. I picked up a 2.75" 69 and I can't put it down. It's just made for a handloader.

What kind of grips are those? They look great!

With your permission,I'll show your post to my wife to show her that I'm not the only guy around who buys guns by the pair!I won't tell you what she calls me like when I do so!
Seriously, what a way to get back to your old loves.Welcome back and congrats!

A beautiful pair, Congrats!

?? Anyone know where I can get a set of those "deluxe" grips for a 629?

As you guys know, prices for guns are at very low level. The grips of these two were helped me pull the trigger on the deal. I was not able to inspect or handle them prior to purchase. GB auction prices were way below local prices. I keep my purchases below my wife's radar. She is wonderful and supportive but there are limits to everything.
