Just looking for a little help with this revolver. It is a model 19-5 with 2 & 1/2" barrel but is finished in matte color. The Standard Catalog shows under variations a gun of this description made for the Connecticut State Police with no markings. Serial on the gun is ANP57.. I don't see that 3 digit prefix listed in the Catalog. Any thoughts on this being issued to Connecticut State Police or just a model 19-5 that was refinished? Thanks in advance for your time.

The ANN and ANP were made for the US Dept of State and they were matte blue. They also had a smooth .400" wide target trigger. Nice revolvers!!
The CTSP revolvers were in the low AYY's

That is a extremely nice example there.

This 4in RB Model 19-5 lettered to the Department of State as well. I will have to keep my eye open for a 2.5in like that one to make a set.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. And yes it looks just like the pictures you guys posted.

The ANP serial number prefix was in common use during the......

November of 1986 to January of 1987

... time frame. It was used with other standard production guns, in addition to the M19-5's made for the U.S. Dept. of State, Diplomatic Security Branch.

The product code for the 2.5-inch gun was 100701, and the matte finish is normal. It's not a refinish.

Don't know if the younger members will agree, but these magnificent photos show why the snub 19 was such a primo gun in the late 60s/early 70s. Finding one in that time period was a labor of Hercules. I admire those of you above who own these fine revolvers. :)

I was not familiar with the history and variant of this model--relative to the finish.

Very cool. Glad to learn something new and congrats to the OP. Now, I have to spend more money.......

Here's one made for the CT. state police.
Black-oxide finish.
A real beauty.

I had an opportunity to see a 2.5-inch CTSP gun new in the box with it's original retail price tag.... $269.99. That would be about $560 adjusted for inflation to today.

Don, is the rear sight a black blade?

While not an original matte finish 19 I had a combat action package done on this one and it came back from S&W with the matte finish.

I like the looks of it but it is not as nice looking as the DSS ones.

...yes, looks good.

back on 7-17-2015 , I posted pictures of another one of those State Dept 19-5 revolvers . Anyone know any new info on these ?
