My personal top five Smith & Wesson revolvers from my safe….
Model 66- Retired duty weapon that I was in several shootings with.
Model 17 with full lug barrel- Very accurate and I have shot many thousands of rounds with it over the years.
Model 69- a relatively new acquisition that with my handloads is the most accurate revolver at 50 yards that I have ever owned.
Model 18- a great training gun and it is just plain fun to shoot.
Model 60 in .357- Has developed into my back pack and carry most everywhere gun the last few years. Very accurate with the Gold Dot SB load.
The list is subject to change based on my mood at the time and may include a 625 Mt. Revolver, one of my 686’s, or my 640 Pro.

The thread states of all time so her goes:
Military and Police
Triple lock
Registered Magnum
L series
Chiefs Special
All S&W revolvers owe their heritage to the first 3 mentioned.

Model 19, 2 1/2"

Honorable mention or replacement for the model 19 would be a Model 586, 4".
( edit,,, of course a 8 shot 27 or 627 could be in there too.. or a model 57 ,, or a ,,, Only 5 ?? )

My 3"bbl Model 10 square butt is almost perfect!
Having a hard time finding a grip with finger grooves.
The ones sent to me will NOT fit the wide square butt at all, and no room left to "dremel" out the inside of the wood grips.
Any place to get them?? Thanks.

Surprised!
I am surprised at the number of the top five "All Around lists that don't contain the Mod. 27 S&W, at all. I can't imagine it not making the top of any "All Around"list. I consider the 27 to be the most ornate, classy, revolver that S&W ever produced, one of the best balanced, with the most, barrel lengths offered as standard options, and as well finished as any revolver S&W has ever produced. My "All Around" list would be as follows. Lists made up of only ones that I own and have used.
Mod. 27, any bbl. length.
Mod. 34 .22/.32 Kit gun
Mod. 57
Mod. 15
Mod. 14
Honorable mentions
38/44 HD & Outdoorsman
Safety Hammerless top break double action models .32/.38
Mod. 17
Mod. 19
Mod. 629 Magna classic 1-100
Mod. 60

Hmm, I think:
My two model 60s; the no-dash 1 7/8", my daily carry, and the -4 3" adjustable sight, my favorite woods-walker;
My 6" pre-27;
My 6 1/2" 29-2
My 5-screw K-22 6"
That means I've left out some real favorites, like the 4"24-3 and a 2 1/2" 66-1... and a bunch more. Ok, I decided I don't like this game. I'm taking all my S&Ws and going home.

Unlimited budget and/or a time machine would make this list different, but of the somewhat obtainable guns out there, guns that an average enthusiast could aspire to own and shoot (not just invest in and store in a safe) this would be my list;
#1 in all respects - a 6" K-22/Model 17
#2 either a K-38 or Model 19, again with 6" barrel
#3 a 44 Spl or 44 Mag either 5 or 6" barrel
#4 a Model 60-4 (specifically - adj sights, 3" under lug barrel)
#5 a K-32 or Model 16 again with 6" barrel (do you see a pattern here?)
For specific applications I might have to substitute a 3 or 4" barrel on daily carry gun #2 or if I were required to carry "deep concealed" my Baby Chief might have to replace gun #3. It's a good thing I'm not really limited to these five!
I notice that only 25% or less put a 22 in their top 5 list, but I'd be willing to bet a dollar to a spent primer that if the truth were known, the K-22 or maybe a kit gun is the one most frequently shot by the majority of us.

10, 64, 67, 10, 64. The subject was "all around" revolvers.
I didn't include the 19 because I can no longer shoot .357 Magnum for physical reasons, but I appreciate its versatility.

I like this list. A lot. I am a big fan of adjustable sights, even on the snubbies.
I've got:
k38 6" 14-3
29 6.5"
66 2.75"
67 4"
686+ 5"
I want to add a j-frame but not an airweight and a 8 3/8" barreled something. Perhaps a model 19. I love the blued 27s but I've got .357 covered already so that'll have to be a long-term project. I also want a .22LR. I guess I'm going to have to prioritize a J-Frame (I'm thinking a pro series 60 3" adj. sights), .22LR, and then finally a model 19 8 3/8" barrel. That'll about give me everything I "need" and start crossing into "want".
I know the thread died but I appreciate everyone's participation as it gave me a lot of ideas on where to go next. I'm a 1911/Revolver guy. I don't do plastic any more and as I've cleared out the last of my polymer wonders, I'm backfilling with revolvers to enjoy.

First place is a no brainer:
Hand Ejector 38 Special AKA Model 10 - made the company.
Second place - N frame 357 Magnum, be it Registered, 27, 28 etc.
Third place - K Frame 357 in it's various guises.
Fourth place - N Frame 44 magnums.
Fifth Place - J Frame 38 specials.
Honorable Mention - L Frame 357s.

I notice that a number you listed the Model 15. I realize the M19 will do all the M15 will do and more but IMHO the 4" M15 is the best balanced and most attractive of all K frames.
What I don't see is anyone listing the Bodyguards like the M649. This amazes me because I think it is the best of all the pint sized fighting hand guns.
So my list.
M17
M15 or M67 4"
M649
M19 or M66 2-1/2"
M29 6"

My top 3 would be a 4" 686, 4" model 10 heavy barrel, and 642 snubbie. The model 29 6.5" would be the most iconic revolver out there IMO.

Just as I suspected when I saw this thread.
The top five Smith & Wesson revolvers are
nearly every one that was ever made.

Ok, my favorites in that order:
586-4 the one I shoot best
29-6 any variety, here in 5''
28-2 it's just a classic in 4''
57-1 another classic but rare, looks like a 29 but crazy accurate, never measured a throat problem in any off the 41 magnums I have seen so far
629-1 in 8 3/8, I just love it, smooth light rolling trigger pull and hits where you point at.

Model 36 snub
Model 13 3"
Model 29 3"
Model 48 4"
#5 should probably be a K frame fixed sight snubby, so a Model 10 or Model 64
Honestly I would be happy with 1 through 4. I already have one of each

So you're saying you like the Model 57?
LOL, good choice BTW, my list would have a 58 on there somewhere.

This may seem a odd list but I am good with it and..........
........thanks to several good people ,many who hang out on this forum and good fortunes ,these all reside in my safe, on my belt, or in my pocket.
Model 649 .38 Special enhanced by Cyl & Slide
Model 45 .22lr 4 inch
Model 16-4 .32 H&R magnum 4 inch
Model 65 Ladysmith .357 magnum 3 inch
Pre model 22 1950 D.A .45 acp
Hon. Mention model 10-10 .38 Special 3 inch Brazilian LE version
and two or three others that are pouting because they didn't make the list.
Took about 24 years of seeking the elusive.

My top 5
I’m listing these in priority of retaining if forced to divest
1-M24-3 3” 44 Spc. Just simply enjoy the gun and caliber
2- M686-4+, 4”, 357. Simply my most accurate revolver
3- M625JM, 4”, 45ACP. Have lots of IDPA matches with this gun
4- M627 Pro, 4”, 357 and 9mm/38Super. Had another cylinder fitted, another very accurate gun.
5- M63 no dash, 4”, 6 shot. Haven’t had much trigger time with it, but suspect I will with my grandsons soon enough.
Honorable mention goes to my M15. A fun revolver
