Have a mid 90's former LE issue M64 4", very good condition, as a fan of 3" barrels, would like to have one installed on this K frame.
Aside from ebay, suggestions for a barrel source?
And what shouold I expect the cost from a local gs to change out the barrel?
thanks for any and all

I would post a Wanted to Buy ad here in the appropriate section, and keep an eye out for one online. Figure about $50-75 (?) for the barrel swap, easy to do mechanically with the right equipment but may need minor fitting.

Gunbroker has "pistol parts" also. I usually hit both in my search.
As for cost, that's going to vary wildly. For instance, I had one gunsmith quote over $250 for a swap, while another did my 4" to 3" Model 64 for around $70. (That barrel cost me $165 back in 2012.) A lot depends on fitting. If there's machining involved in getting the barrel to clock up properly, that can add a few $$$. Parts come and go all the time, so search more or less frequently.

Small world - I had the mothership do the same exact thing in 2016. Back then it was $90-ish for labor + $45 for return shipping and they sent me a label to send it in included in that cost. They did what I consider to be a perfect job - and I think they reblasted the topstrap free of charge ... :)

I picked up the near-new 3-in barrel off the flea place for (way too much) $150 ... :(

I just had a 6" model 629 rebarreled to 4". The charge for rebarreling, which included trimming the barrel shank to give a BC of .004, redoing the forcing cone and trimming the barrel shoulder to allow the barrel to clock properly was $150.00. I have also had a new barrel installed on my Frankengun (a 1917 frame and yoke with a .44 cylinder and barrel to make a Model 24ish 44 Special). That cost me $225.00 because the front of the frame had to be milled to remove the torque ring from the old barrel and the ejector rod and center pin had to be trimmed to fit. I now, with the addition of a Wondersight have a .44 Special. Much more fun to shoot than the 629, and will be better looking once I have it blued. And cost effective given what real Model 24 goes for.

As a result of these two excursions into the black arts of the gunsmith's shop, I would say that you are probably looking at $150.00 to $200.00 to get the gun rebarreled. You might want to consider what a real 3" Model 64 costs. You may find it more cost effective to sell your 64-4" and buy a 64-3" if the addition of your returns from the 64-4" and the rebarreing costs equal or exceed the cost of a 644-3" This equation of course noes not consider sentimental value or any other non-financial values attached to the 64-4"
