Ram's horn, stag, etc grips for RB N Frame
Friends,
I'm looking for some sharp looking ram's horn stag grips for a new acquisition. I came across a 3" Model 29-4 unfluted N frame round butt. It has those rubber grips on it but it is just screaming for some sexy grips. Looking for suggestions.
I saw a picture on here a week or so ago of a gentleman with a 29 3" with some nice stag grips and that is kind of what i'm after. Uncertain where to look or what is best. Looking for your ideas!

Check with bigmtnman or executioner, both forum members.

Here is a set made by bigmtnman (Ken Driskill).
You can contact him, but I think that you'll find that this is a hobby for him and he makes what he wants, when he wants. Nothing made to order. You just have to be in the right place at the right time.
He advertises here in the Accessories classifieds and also on GB using the same handle. I have quite a few Driskill stocked guns. He is a superb craftsman, but they are more than ornamental - they also feel very good in the hand.
I don't want to put words in his mouth, just relating what he told me when I begged for a specific application. Try contacting him. Good luck.
Adios,
Pizza Bob

I have these sambar stag grips made by Ajax. They fit round butt N frame very nicely with no ridiculous looking gaps. I just discovered this new (at least new to me) tone amp for acoustic guitars and NEED one lol. So I'm willing to let this set go for $260. Send me a PM and we can iron out details.
Buy from me or don't, but every 3" pre-lock 29 deserves to be taken to a ball with new shoes
Good luck in your search!

Thank you. I'll keep that in mind. I want to see what else is available before I make a final decision. Good luck on the amp. My youngest boy is up to his ears in guitar stuff.

I'll have to give a major +1 on Ajax vintage grips if you can find them. They are truly worth good money on great S & W guns.
I sold the below engraved Model 60 some time ago and it had been engraved by the Founder of FEGA (Firearms Engravers Guild of America), Mr. Ben Shostle in his Indianapolis Indiana workshop.
The grips he decided to put on this one-of-a-kind work of art were Ajax # 21M, big horn sheep, very dense and check the fit from all angles...no sloppy gaps, tight to the frame, etc.
I realize these are J Frame but a set of vintage Ajax on any gun fit and look beautiful in my opinion.
Just sayin....

With the one obvious exception in the middle, these are bigmtnman, Ken Driskill grips.

If you are looking for stag, contacting Ajax may not do you any good at all. It's been decades since they sold stag of any kind. The original Ajax company went bankrupt and has been sold more than once since. When people refer to "vintage Ajax grips", especially in reference to their sambar stag, they are referring to a grip maker that exist today in name alone.

If you don't mind the prices. You'll have to go to about page 27 and there's not many round butts but there are some nice ones.
