What cleaning products are acceptable for use on titanium cylinders?

Any ordinary powder solvent and nylon brush can be used to remove residue. The main thing to avoid is harsh scrubbing with metal, trying to get the inevitable stains off. Clean it like you would a fine blue cylinder, and leave the stains alone. Anything that will remove the stains will damage the protective finish.

Someone at S&W told me not to use any product with ammonia in it. Does standard solvent have ammonia?

S&W needs to have a damn tag tied to the gun with exact instructions for cleaning Ti guns. I just use Hoppe's Elite (no ammonia) and never scrub the chambers or cylinder face with brass or steel brushes.

Hoppe’s #9 used to have ammonia but I don’t think the current formulation does.

The Ti cylinders have a thin protective coating for prevention of erosion. Removing it with cleaning takes away the protection. Enjoy the burn rings! :)

So far I’ve just used gun oil and a nylon brush but I’m looking for something more effective for the charge holes. I’m not too worried about burn rings as I don’t clean those off my stainless cylinders either.

I ordered some m pro 7 ammonia free gun cleaner. I seem to recall the S&W customer service guy mentioning it. I’ll give it a go. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know!

Shooter Choice and Sweets 7.62 are both heavy with ammonia.

Just checked the MSDS sheets on Hoppes website and Hoppes #9 still does contain ammonia. Hoppes Elite is ammonia free.

Adios,

Pizza Bob
