These SW 460XVR ES (Emergency Survival) Kits.
Can someone point me to info in what years they produced these?

Also did they ever produce them w/o the Hi Vis yellow grips?

I have been looking at purchasing the 460ES but want to make sure I get a completed kit as manufactured.
I see some for sale with Black Hogue X Frame grippers.

Were they ever sold this way?

I have been told by someone that they originally sold with black grips then switched to yellow a little later
Any truth?

EDIT: I see the SCSW reference has only yellow Hogue grips listed
prod code 163463FC. Only produced 2006. Still asking the same question.

I keep answering my own questions. There were 3 product codes in 2006 for teh 2 3/4" gun. All called ES revolvers. Only the product code 163463FC had yellow grips in the survival kit. 150125 and 150152 were sold as an ES gun an blue plastic case with black grips. ASAICT

2006 Start year of production
I have a kit which dates 2008 so at least through this year

All gun in the kits had yellow grips, to my knowledge- the prototypes 460ES and 460PD even wear yellow grips

No, the black grips were issued on the guns sold separately.

Not to my knowledge, from what I have seen ES kit purchasers bought black grips and changed them because the yellow grips get/show dirt easily- these kits are when sold, typically have both grips.

in summary 460 ES kit gun should have yellow grips.
The buyer should at least the gun SN so you can call S&W and get the SKU if he doesn't have the original shipping box.

You could also purchase the kit and the individual components at one time but S&W stick was depleted years back and they are no longer available. Some individuals bought kits and added guns later- giving the same appearance as factory supplied kit.

ES Kit SKU 163463
ES Gun SKU 150152, SKU 150153, SKU 150125

While you are look in Standard Catalog of S&W, check out the black prototype gun and you can see it has yellow grips.

S&W 460 ES Survival Kit help

Here is a picture of a 2006 gun very similar in SN that I called in to SW CS today. I gave her
the serial number and she gave the year shipped, 2006.
Product code 150152.

This pic is from an old auction showing gun with case and label and black grips. Note product code on label is 150152 and it’s in a blue standard case with black grips.
I think these might have come out very early then the yellow kits came out.??
I just guessing though. The product code for gun with yellow grips and kit is 163463FC
PAGES 290-291 SCSW 4th Ed Nahaus and Supica.

Edit: I looked at the SW Catalog from 2006. It’s shows the 460V as a new offering in a longer barrel. No mention in it anywhere of the 2.75” barrel guns or ES Kits . I can’t find a 2007 catalog to see what it has to offer.

This is the from the 2007 Catalog.. The gun in above post was shipped in 2006. Again a different product code too.

As far as I can tell this was the only year(s) 2006-2007 that S&W made either the 460 or the 500 in a 2.75" barrel. That's what really makes them collectors items in my opinion..more so than the peripheral Kit that came with the ES Survival package.

Both guns were released in 2006 and produced over several years.

What I find interesting is the SKU 150125 and 150152 guns are identical and I wonder if the SKU of one of them was original a typo in the set up with the last two digits transposed.

I have one of each in the blue case with box labels.

The earliest date I have for a SKU 150125 is Oct 2006
The earliest date I have for a SKU 150152 is Aug 2006

Of the 2 SKUs I have only seen very few SKU 150125 compared to 150152

The earliest date code I have seen is for ES kit, but that is not conclusive evidence of which was released first.

The prototype 460 Night Guard was build on a 150152 and dates 5/31/06, only one know to exist.

There are a few other 460s in the short barrel know to exist such as those described on p.291 of 4th Ed of the Standard Catalog.

I posted a 460PD in the past (my current avatar).

The earliest I have seen is Sept 2006 (edited from 2008) but don't have a record of it

Quick check is a DAL sn prefix in Nov 06 listed in my data base

The earliest Box label I have picture of is 7003 or 3 Jan 07, SN DAN7266

I really love the 460ES. First opportunity I have to own one within reason, I will be all over it.

I never would have guessed that avitar is actually an X frame 2.75”

The 460 cylinders are slightly longer than the 500’s, correct?

The box I have pictured in post 6 DAH5384 is Sept 18 2006. SKU 150152 Per the label on box. If you are keeping a data base. I have never seen that gun it was just pictured in an old obscure auction when I was Googling.

Did you really mean Sept 2008? Or 2006? 2008 seems really late since the 2007 catalog had them listed.

Is that some kind of lanyard ring I see on those revolvers? I have not noticed that before on these ES revolvers. Cool.

I edited my 2008 typo to 2006

It is not uncommon from guns to run past their year of introduction.

The 460 Bone Collector was introduced in for 2015 but actual production run through went May 2016.

Yes it a lanyard ring and most models of 460 had them in the box. they simply replace the screw that holds the grip.

Did these kits come with at least 5 rounds? Can’t imagine surviving a plane crash surrounded by hungry wolves, then opening the case to find nothing to shoot.

It’s not legal to ship firearms and ammunition in the same container. If you spent $1500 + for your Bear Survival Kit and forgot the $40 box of ammo to take along with it, it is on you. Along with the bear. ;)

Shipping no. Transport while flying continental US ammo and gun can be in same case is permitted.
Rules for other country vary. In Canada Ammunition must be in separate locked container and the firearm must be also have trigger lock or barrel lock and be in locked hard container.
