Hey All,
Just got my hands on an 8-shot 627 v-comp in black with stainless "highlights." This gun shoots like butter and I'm absolutely loving it. My first question - I know I'll have many - is whether there are certain rounds I should stay away from? 180 gr. "bear loads" for instance? I haven't seen anything explicitly stating the gun can't handle higher pressure loads etc, but I want to check with the group.

Also, the residue on the cylinder is a real bear to remove. Any tips for cleaning that will not mar the finish?

Thanks!

You should have no problems with your bear loads since it is designed for the .357.

I use MPro-7 for cleaning my guns and have no problem getting all the carbon fouling off the cylinder. Give it a try. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then brush off with a toothbrush.

Good luck.

First Let me say . . . Welcome to the Forum

You will find quite a few of us that admire and shoot the 8 shot 27/327/627 family of revolvers.

Your V-Comp is a strong firearm that will safely chamber and shoot all ammunition that conforms to SAAMI specification. The V-comp works best with ammunition that generates lots of gas volume. My favorite hand loads are all assembled with H110

Here is my all stainless 627 V-comp. I do change out the grips on mine

I leave the V-comp on mine all the time, obviously you can put the false muzzle on in it's place like is shown on AzShooter's two tone

Much like Bullet Bob, if my initial cleaning with Hoppes did not remove it, I do not worry about the carbon schorching

Thanks All,
I'll give the MPro7 a swirl and see how that does. Now I'm off on the never ending search for ammo...

I second the use of Mpro7 cleaner !
It is a great gun cleaner. What ever doesn't come off with a soft nylon/plastic brush, will probably wipe off with a silicone gun cloth. And anything that stays, stays.
I feel like a broken record saying just how good Mpro7 works.

This is my pinto.

Okay, next question -

What distance are you routinely shooting these v-comps at - with accuracy? I'm currently dialing in (trying to, anyway) at 35 yards and wonder whether I should be pushing that out further. Of course, my tired eyes are telling me to give it up.

The furthest shots I had to take in competition were at 50 yards. My gun was capable of shooting all 10s at an 8 inch circle with many in the 4 inch center.

In Steel Challenge the furthest target is 18X24 and I have no troubles hitting them.

Off a rest at 25 yards I could easily shoot 1 inch groups with my special reloads using 185 grain bullets and Unique powder.
