PHOTO OF NEW GRIPS ADDED IN POST AT BOTTOM OF THREAD.

Did paperwork on this Model 547 today. Can't wait to pick it up - 7 day wait in MD.

The 547 is a no moon clip 9mm. Reputed to be the most expensive to produce S&W revolver, don't know if that is true.

The grips aren't original as far as I know. They should be RB targets from what I've read. I'll put a set of Thai combats on it until I can source original style grips

Sorry for the at-the-gun-counter pics, but they're what I could grab. I'll post better photos in a week!

I would love to find one of those. Nice grab!

Thanks.

I missed an as new in box 547 for less $ sitting on my thumbs, then another for less $ with original grips because I put finding a 547 on the back burner and found it a day after it sold. This one I hopped on.

Amazing how a miserable bout of COVID, with two nights going to bed wondering if I'd make it through the night, changes your outlook on life.

I'm working hard on my revolver bucket list.

ETA: There are two 4" square butts available if you are interested. Asking price is high, but you never know. PM me if you're interested and I'll provide seller info.

Life is short, and none of us are getting any younger. If it's something you really want and you can buy it without doing harm to family and home, you might as well jump in. That's a good looking 547. I didn't recall the RB model coming with a different type of stocks but I'm hardly making any claims for my memory these days. Enjoy your new revolver! :)

Now I understand your post in another thread about 3" guns ;)

Very nice catch - congratulations. You will not regret your purchase at all, and it seems in prefect condition.

The one I have is very precise shooter with an amazingly smooth action, 3" and pinned. I got it from a former police guy's widow about 15 years ago, and I guess it might have been a test gun bought by the Belgian police force for evaluation. It has a serial number 8D4xxx, so I dated it back to 1981. It didn't unfortunately have the original grips, but Pacmayr Grippers, which I traded for Ahrends combat grips with open back. Very comfortable to shoot.

Enjoy it

I believe the grips on your 547 are the original. Never seen a picture of a 547 with targets. Enjoy it when you get it.

It's the opposite for me, every photo of a 3" RB 547 I've seen shows RB targets. Except mine, of course.

I'll do some more reading.

I'll also take a look at the current grips, but regardless of originality, I don't think I'd find a serial number.

Could also be that that some shipped with each grip.

Correct, the 3" guns shipped with RB Targets and the 4" with Magna stocks, but look for a matching serial number anyhow. :) Enjoy!

Yep. That's the other problem. LOL

Here is a pic of the 3" with the original RB Target stocks...

I have since changed these to smooth RB Target stocks.

There were fewer 4" models made, but, for some reason, the 3" guns seem to command higher prices - at least that's the way it was when I bought this one, a little over a year ago.

Good luck on securing the one you're looking at.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Great photo, thanks.

Those are the grips I want.

The 547 is mine, I've done the federal and state paperwork, MD just has a 7 day wait.

My 547 came to me with magna grips. It appeared to be ANIB and the magna grips fit it particularly well. By serial it is a later gun, so we will never know how it actually shipped. Given that they were supposed to ship with round butt target grips, Mr. Spegel's magnificent workmanship fixed my problem.

I was going to mention the 547 speedloaders in the For Sale forum, but I see you snagged them already...Good catch...:D...Ben

Haha. Yes I hopped on those. Fortuitous timing.

Tupperware, the seller, has a 547 4" SB he bought in new in the box condition several years ago.

That's a beauty! Love the grips.
