I listed a revolver in classifieds. I described it as a 629-2 Three inch Unfluted. A friend of mine told me that it's a Classic Hunter . I looked at similar revolver on line and it was described as Lew Horton (?). Which one is it ? I don't want to give wrong description.

The Classic Hunter line of revolvers had longer barrels than 3". I have a 686-3 and a 657-2 Classic Hunter...barrels are 6" and 6.5" respectively.

I know of the backpacker, but I think there are several iterations of the 3” 629, many with cute names. I pretty sure the Classic Hunters had 5+ inch barrels. I have two of the original Lew Horton 3” 629-1s from the mid 80s, but they have the traditional barrel profile.

ABSOLUTLY there is a 3" Classic Hunter

They were availble in both Blue or Stainless

There were also Lew Hortons and RSRs, etc.

The 3" stainless 44 Magnum had more special names as Exclusives for the various Distributors than any other barrel length/caliber combination. Many of the variations had the name right on the side plate

You NEED to CALL the Factory. Give the Customer Service rep the serial number and ask for the product code.

Then you can look up the product code and see what it actually is

Yes, the 3" unfluted 629 went by a few different names. See this old thread:

Is your gun stamped 629-2 or 629-2E? From your picture it appears to have the longer stop notches which is part of the Endurance Package. Mine s stampe with the -2E in the yoke!

The 629 came in round butt with the late dash 3...I have a non fluted 629-3 and it is a square butt. Neighbor has a 629 -3 with a fluted cylinder and it is a round butt. Mine has a 6 inch barrel and his has a 5 inch. mine has pinned Patridge front sight, his has the spring loaded replaceable front , like a DX. Both are dash 3 and we both bought them new
