Just purchased a 357 Mag. No box/papers, etc. (numbers behind the yoke; Serial #: CSB2047 and 686-6; Also the number 571 is stamped on the yoke. 4" barrel. Serial # and #571 are stamped on the bottom of the grips (when I remove them). 7 shot. Cylinder drops out the left side and it's hand eject.

Left side of barrel is stamped S&W .357 Magnum. Right side of barrel is stamped Smith & Wesson. This is a 3 screw. One screw is hidden under the grip.

Only other marking is: Made in USA; Marcas Registradas; Smith & Wesson; Springfield, Mass

Thanks for any help. Hope I answered any possible questions.

It's a 686-6 Plus. Someone will be along to give an estimate of when it was made, but it's fairly recent.

It is an L or medium + size frame, first produced in 1980 and made to address the durability issues that arose with heavy use of .357s in the K frame revolvers. The 7-shot or Plus variation was first made with the -4 engineering change. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info and responses. It is a L frame. I wasn't sure if it was a plus. This is only my 2nd S&W revolver. My first one is a .38 made in October of 1884. Inherited from my grandfather and got a letter of authenticity.
