Pawn shop find: 686-6 "stocking dealer exclusive"
Found this at a local pawn shop LNIB. Product code 164284. Thought it was interesting and different enough to pick up at a reasonable price, considering what standard issue models of 686 are going these days. On of those buy now, regret later deals. These are pics cribbed from the shop's website, but I'll post a couple new ones when I get a chance.
I think it dates to 2003, but i'll have to double check that. Also came with HKS speed loader pouch with two speed loaders.
Just thought I'd share.

That barrel configuration is pretty unique for a 686. I like it!
Congrats!

Congratulations on a nice find
I LOVE Pawn Shops
Since computerizing in the 1980s, the date of manufacture has been printed right on the end label 95+% of the time. There are a few exceptions when that is not the case
It will be a 4 digit number under the heading "SPEC ORDER"
Additionally the date on the fired cartridge envelope is usual within 48 hours of that

they are great Stocking Dealers specials.. getting used to the V-notch rear sights took me a bit.. wish S&W made the 5 inch half lug a standard catalog item

I hated the V-notch
I tried to get used to it but gave up after a while and had Smith & Wesson send me the correct height standard notch sight blade kit so I could replace it

Does that iteration have the two-piece barrel?

Very nice! In my experience, 4 inch full under lug barrels balance well, but by 6 inches they become muzzle heavy. I agree, S&W should have made the short ejector shroud/lug a regular production option.
