I have a 19-6 .357 4.25" bbl listed on consignment with a shop for around $695.00 since the day after Thanksgiving and no takers.
It is in very good condition. No box
Am I asking too much?
TIA

May be a little high. I looked at completed auctions and a new one sold in an auction new in box for $607. Another went for $625. A 6" for $649. Plus shipping of course which seems to be $75 now. At least it was on all of those. But those are all NIB unfired.

I couldn't find an auction on a used one.

I don't know that you are asking too much. It could be that the revolver crowd is small (compared to auto loaders) and the model 19 crowd is smaller still so you may have to be patient. The average buyer looking for a .357 revolver has options that are arguably better than a model 19. I love the 19 and have one but I prefer to shoot my 586's. IMHO the person who buys a model 19 wants a model 19 for it's beauty and historical significance rather than it's performance although it performs very well. This doesn't mean the 19 has less value but rather those who value it are less common. It would perhaps do better if it were an earlier dash model. You are waiting for the right buyer and they will come along at some point.

I don't think that your price is excessive these days. If I found one in very good condition as you describe, with no serious cosmetic flaws and good mechanical condition, I would not hesitate to pay $650 OTD for one. The pre lock 19's have pretty much dried up around here for anything close to a reasonable price. When you see one in a pawn shop or gun show, the 4" models are usually $800+ and the 2 1/2" models have reached just stupidly high prices. Good luck.

I don't believe that your pricing is the problem. I mean, you're in the reasonable ballpark.

Christmas and the fact that it's a revolver. Black plastic pistols with staple gun triggers squirting Euro-Pellets from a high capacity magazine ....that's what is selling today. Lasers, RDOs, Weapon mounted lights...all the clown pistol stuff.

Perhaps a talk with your FFL to find out if your revolver has gotten any play while on his shelf? That conversation will probably tell you that even with a cellar bottom price reduction your iron is going to sit for a while. Different shops have different clientele and I might be off base.

I know a gun store that had a M19 snubby…I know they go for more…and asking nearly $1200 for it with pretty significant finish wear. It sat in the case for a long time. It eventually did sell but I don’t know what it actually sold for.

Price looks fair to me. I have noticed the prices of used firearms to be rather soft these days. Probably not moving very well. Not sure why. Might be the prices and availability of new firearms.

I was in Cabela's about two weeks ago and found a used Browning Lightning in VG condition for $699. I was shocked. That's a 2K firearm new, before they discontinued it. I'll take it.

I don't think you're off on your pricing, I agree with the revolver market not being what it used to be. If it's a decent revolver take the consignment addon off there and sell it here...there are more than a few here that live and breathe revolvers! :D

Yep,

I don't think the price is all that crazy. Just like as has been said you kinda hit a bad selling time with Christmas season. And it's not one of the early 19's that peak interest a bit more.

I'm now working part time in gun sales and I can tell you we sell 50 semi-auto's for every revolver. The revolver case barely gets a look and then it's almost always old folks.

Just be patient

I purchased very nice 2.5'' model 19 from a member here a long time ago. It wasn't a great deal then but that changed pretty fast.

I don’t think you’re asking too much, but you might consider giving your consigner 10% bargaining space to negotiate the sale of your gun.

Your gun has been on the market for a very short time. They don’t sell quickly unless they are misidentified or vastly undervalued and have enough visibility to be located. It intuitively seems that a gun in a LGS simply won’t get as many eyes on it than if it was on a national auction site.l

The more accessible the gun is to be seen by lots of eyes, the better. Consigning it to a LGS will give you few eyes on your gun. The number of people who wander into the LGS is small and un likely to spend much time hunting through the gun cases.

There is a 19-2, 6 incher for sale in Texas Gun Trader for $800.00. I think your price is fine - just wait for the right buyer who wants a Model 19.

Good advice, recommendations & comments.
As much as i like this gun I was bewildered as to why it didn't sell in a month.
I will be patient, (not easy for me) and give it a bit more time then consider options, if not keep it.
Thanks all!

I had a 20 ga.L C Smith shotgun for sale for almost a year. Beautiful gun in exl. condition, even had some original case color on it. I dropped the price several times until it finally sold. I thought that one would sell pretty fast also. I was wrong. What I like obviously doesn't transfer to the buying public.

That also. I have a -6 that I purchased new. Really nothing wrong with them that I can see. Blue is high luster, no MIM parts or lock. Comparable to my -3 in fit and finish. Miles ahead of anything built today. But I think the -5 was the last one that collectors want. Those and earlier models are getting hard to find. Like me, I'm not selling.

List it here for the same price and see what happens. Counter offers here are frequently in range of reason, and its the right marketplace for S&W fans.
