For several years now, I've been watching for a nice Model 18 to add a 4" barrel to my Model 17 6" and 8-3/8" 22's. A brace of 22's so to speak.
I kinda wanted an older one, maybe an 18-2 or 18-3, but I found an 18-4 that looked like new in its auction pics, and after waiting so long, I jumped on it. I paid too much, but it only hurts once, and I'm thrilled with my new toy.
I've looked it over carefully, done all the action checks, and I have to wonder if it's even had a box of ammo through it. It's that much like new.
I've included the box label and the sales card for those of you who collect dates and serial numbers.

A beauty !!! I love my 18 and 17. My 18-3 also has TT/TH along red ramp. No original grips came with combats.

Great shooters. I've had a 17 and an 18 for many years. I'm not a dasher and don't remember what dashes are on my guns, but my 18 is measurably more accurate than my 17. I've had good results with CCI SV, but try as many ammos as you can.

First of all you never pay to much maybe to soon. That is a wonderful M18 congratulations. I have a couple and they go together with the K 22's like pie and ice cream.

Congratulations on the purchase of that very nice Model 18-4 with Target Hammer and Target Trigger, so noted on the box.
I watched that auction and bid on the gun also. I dropped out long before the end and watched when you won the auction. The gun looks mint by all the pictures. You can never have too many S&W .22 pistols.

The Model 18 is my favorite S&W revolver. I have two 18-3s and one of them seems to show up on every range trip.
Aside from being a great .22 revolver, the 18 serves as an excellent understudy for its center fire brothers. I give my model 18s full credit for teaching me to shoot a revolver in DA mode.

Beautiful example of an 18. Well worth the wait!

Great gun you have there. My Model 18-3 is one of my favorites. I bought it from a dear relative's estate. It is just such a cool gun and a blast to shoot. Congrats. Whatever you paid, who cares? They are hard to find in that condition.

Took years to find mine. I don’t think Smith ever made a lot of these.

My 18's are my favorite revolvers to shoot. I've got a dash 3
with a 8 3/8" barrel that goes to the range quite frequently.

That beauty is one of my dream guns, nice.

See this splendid no dash 18 I bought "early" in 2015 at a gun show in Pueblo for $625, with the box and papers. It dates, by the book, to 1958. Curiously, the period correct stocks don't number. It's a beauty and I do shoot it occasionally like a guided missile. I love it dearly alongside the 17-4, the post-war Masterpiece, and the pre-war Outdoorsman. If I had to make a statement under oath, the 17-4 is the most accurate of the bunch at 50+ yards. All enjoy CCI SV. The 17 and 18 have had the chambers reamed with excellent results; didn't want to touch the older versions.

Some collect art; I shoot it!

I started my journey into a sub collection of Model 18's with this no dash. To date I also have a -2, two -3's, and a -4. I have seen a number of 5 screws, just not one yet, in high enough condition to join the group. A -1 I have never seen. Hopefully some day.

Picked this 18-3 several months ago. Fantastic shooter and I do just as well compared to the 6” K22 that I shoot side by side.

I think I've developed a 4 screw fetish. 357, K22 Masterpiece, 44 Magnum, etc. Missed out on a 4 screw Highway Patrolman. The 4 screw CM has eluded me, but my favorite 22 Combat Masterpiece, March 24, 1952 (5 screw) keeps me going. Seen below.

You didn’t say what dash your other two are, but if they are earlier ones that have diamond Magna grips, could always look for a pair of diamond Magna grips to match the grips on your other two. Obviously, they wouldn’t match the serial number, but they would complete the brace. BTW, your new one is really nice, and the grips on it look great too.

My other two are 17-3 and 17-4, so I'm saved the expense of looking for a matching set of grips. I do like the generally darker looks of the older grips though.

Funny I would say the 4 screw K22 CM has eluded me. I just posted a picture in another thread of one I just acquired. I claim chemo fog/OTD/CRS.

IMHO the Vintage M18 is about the best 22 Revolver Smith ever made! Probably one of the best anyone has ever made!

Don't be surprised if you need to ream out the chambers but that has become a pretty standard job with these revolvers and the Manson Reamer is not crazy expensive. It's very easy to do as well.

I'm pretty sure that I've had mine for over a year. I would have to look at my files. I found mine at a gun show, by a private seller. I really enjoy shooting it.

Last year I found an as new Combat Masterpiece on GB. It's a birth year gun 1952 and goes with the two K22's also from 52. I paid dearly for it but now the pain is gone and all that remains is the gun which is as it should be.

Nice find, I still have mine that I bought in the very early 70's.

I found a 18-4 in a rather new gunshop in town about two months ago, made a deal and brought it home. When I saw it in a display case at first I thought it was a 38 Combat Masterpiece like I qualified with in USAF OCS. It had a little very mild freckling in a couple of spots, but that burnished off with a hard rod and some oil. Internals were dirty and a couple of rust spots on the trigger spring housing, probably not the correct term for that piece, but it cleaned up, and I got everything else clean and relubed. I also got a set of larger Magma grips to match the ones on my K 22 and K 38, both 6"models. Don't really know if I would want one of the 8 3/8" versions. I did just get a new M 48, 22Mag 6" . My holy grail would be a 6" K 32, but these things are out of sight price wise.
