I’m looking for a mounting solution for my older Smith & Wesson 586-3, which doesn’t have any drill holes on the frame. Does anyone know if there’s a mount plate option available for a Holosun or Vulcan red dot sight, or will I need to send it out to get drilled?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Have someone drill it for a mount. That's really the only way to do it.

I had Ruger drill my MKII for a mount. I think they charged me $70 and sent a rail back with it.

All the no drill sight setups I've seen are pretty klunky and don't work very well. You would be far ahead to get the top drilled and tapped in the standard factory hole pattern all the way through. Making blind holes in this case will leave the screws only engaged 2 or 3 threads, hanging on by their fingernails, essentially. That setup would not be very secure, and is likely to come off eventually from recoil.

If you want a dot or a scope, do it right or leave it with iron sights.

Edit to add - I'm using Allchin mounts for my red and green dots with excellent results.

If your gun has an adjustable rear sight this company makes mounts that use the screws holes the sight used. S&W micro for RMR SRO Holosun C - AllchinGunParts.com

The pre-rounded sight S&Ws can be drilled and tapped to accept any optic mount that fits the later factory drilled revolvers.
I have a 625-3, a pre drilled model.
Drilled and tapped it myself on my drill press with X-Y table.
It's not a big deal, just do it.
