Default New to me Model 19-5

I found this Model 19-5 in the used case of a local pawn and gun store. The pistol is in great shape, very clean, tight lock-up, and crisp action. The finish is a smooth, matte black. I believe it's either Birdsong Black-T or something similar, it's not Cerakote (Note: Birdsong's shop is about 20 miles from me, and I've had pistols done by them.) It sports Pachmayr grips and a smooth, target trigger. The hammer and trigger are color-casehardened; the hammer is standard width.

When I got home, I did a little bit of research and found that the Model 19-5s purchased by the Dept of State's Diplomatic Security Service also had a matte finish, Pachmayr grips, and a smooth, .400 inch wide trigger. I found a photo of one of the DSS 19-5s, and this thread (Matte finish Model 19-5 2&1/2" barrell) and I think I might have a DSS pistol, or least one that was made at the same time to the same specifications. The serial number on mine is ANP57XX.

The first photo is the DSS 19-5, the second photo is my M19-5.

That's all business right there. That would be a fine six shooter to carry. Congrats!

The -5 engineering revisions of the Model 19 that were purchased by the Diplomatic Security Service were all finished in matt black on round butt frames.

The revolvers were produced in both 4" as well as 2 1/2" left the Factory wearing Pachmeyr Compac Professional grips. These differ from the standard grip in that there is a cut out in the butt of the grip so the serial number can be read without removing them

There are other Agencies that also purchased matt finished Model 19s for their personnel. As best as I recall one of them was a state police force

Connecticut State Police.

Congrats on finding a DSS. Has all the correct features and is in the correct serial number range for one of their orders.
