Last one I bought I paid around 700 for and it came with a leather holster nice combat grips speed loaders ect. Gave it to my brother for Christmas a few years ago

Would my LNIB 940 no dash with orig grips and box be an equal trade?

686 no dash 4" is high demand, say $750-$900ish. Great revolvers. Talk 'em down a bit.

You can try, but pretty sure the shop will need more to resell.
I'd keep the 940 or sell it later rather than trade it.

So no factory grips gun only.
If you collect 686 variations the 4" no dash is the cornerstone especially if it's early production with large right side TM the factory speed loader cut target stocks can be replaced.
On the other hand if you are looking for a shooter PSA was advertising new 5" 686+ pros for $700 after rebate .
The 686 no dash like the 629 no dash is becoming collectors gun in high original condition but if you are anti iL the 686-4 is the high water mark as is the 629-4 in their evolution.
The new guns also have a warranty.
All depends what you want.

So how far apart does that put us? I have no clue what a dealer marks up used guns.

I'd figure the dealer gave 50-60% or so cash, or less than that in trade value, for the 686. So he'd be getting your 940 after getting the 686 for (perhaps) $500. Bet he'd do that deal!

I'd ask for at least $200 plus your 940 in trade for the 686. Good luck in your decision.

gasaman, your gun is worth more and harder to find than his. But he's a gun dealer, he can't stay in business making trades of equal value. I'm not trying to rip on him, that's just the way it is. Based on what I see that actually sold on GB, I would buy that gun, and then sell yours. I'd put $1300 on it. After all is said and done, you would have a couple of hundred to buy ammo.

BTW… you are paying a premium for a no dash Pre-Lock. If you just want a range toy or a home defense revolver, buy a new 686 for $900. You are getting the most popular revolver made and you aren’t buying someone else’s problem.

Does it have the M stamp.

The GB was a good deal, not in really high condition but these guns are in high demand. I have been looking for a high condition 4" but they command high prices and go quickly, so it is the one barrel length I don't have in 586 or 686.

That dealer knows the gun won't sit long which is a consideration for the business as well. The time value of money. I would bet he did not give more than 500 and probably less depending on the seller.

I would not touch it. I have had two separate bad luck break downs on 586 nd's. I could not get rid of them fast enough. I gratefully paid for my lessons.

Jeez I’ve had more than my share of 586’s
8” to 2 1/2inch some with the M stamp
All have worked flawlessly
