I've been looking for a gun that was made the year I was born for a while now. My search had me stumble upon a neat 67-2 that was used by the Tennessee DOC. The 67-2 was purchased for the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution back when it opened up and has markings on the right side from its time there. I couldn't resist getting a gun that was not only made the year I was born, but also has an interesting history behind it.

It's barely been fired. Feels like it would be a shame to start shooting it, but it was meant to be a workhorse, right? I'd just be making up for range time it never got back in the RMSI. :D

That's cool. I have a couple Model 60's once owned and issued by Metro Nashville Police Department.

One has the MNPD logo on the right side and both have etchings on the left side, under the cylinder, which indicate to which precinct, shift, and zone they were issued. A friend who is a MNPD sergeant deciphered the etchings for me.

The one marked 315C was issued to South Precinct, Zone 15, Midnight Shift. The one marked 517C was issued to Hermitage Precinct, Zone 17, Midnight Shift.

Very cool guns Op and Rak. Marked LE guns are a favorite of mine. It seems a few of these RMSI 67s are just now popping up. Very tempting. It’s interesting that for years I had the hardest time finding any 67-2. Maybe not “rare” but it sure took a while to find one.

I also have a Model 67-1 marked S.C. Prob., which I believe stands for Shelby County (AL) Probation based on it having been found in a Huntsville gun shop.

I also have a Royal Hong Kong Police Model 10-7.

Always nice to find a birth year gun, but kind of disconcerting to me that we are now talking about people young enough to have been born after stainless was introduced!
Most corrections/prison guns often look beat up on the outside but mechanically great/ nearly unfired. I had lots of interactions with corrections officers between my job and shooting matches over the years.
They might fire 50 rounds a year if that.

Much like in the military, even though there might be 30 guns in the armory, they might only pull out say 6 to go to the range, leaving the other 24 unfired for years. Pulled out for duty, banged around in a holster then handed back.

I do enjoy the agency marked stuff. I always keep an eye open for them, but in my neck of the woods, S&W revolvers are not commonly encountered let alone anything with agency markings.

Midnight shift plainclothes revolvers from the Nashville PD.

What stories those guns could tell!

I've also seen RMSI-marked 66s pop up as well.
