I have searched the forum quite extensively without finding the answer to my question:

What is the nominal land diameter of a S&W .38 Special barrel?

My reason is realatively simple - I wish to make set o range rods to check cylinder-to-bore alignment (timing) and check for bent or sprung yokes. Brownell's is 'out of stock', and a call told me it will be 'a while' before they are back in stock. Meanwhile, I have a wild hair... and don't want to wait.

I have the Brownell's service and match size range rods for the .38/357 revolvers. The match measures .3475 and the service one measures .3445. Perhaps this will help you make which ever you want. I used a Dillon Precision digital caliper.

A range rod doesn't check yokes. You need a yoke alignment spud/tool. It fits inside the yoke with a reduced diamter where the extractor rod fits and has a stud on the large end that fits the center pin hole in the breech face.

I'd definately buy that one.
