Does anyone know of someone that re-bores pistol barrels. I am looking to gat a 617 rebored to.327 Fed Mag.
I talked to a guy in Michigan (I think) last year that did it but didn't keep his contact information.

OK, I'm curious. How do you change a rimfire frame to a centerfire one? Does anyone have an example to show?

I'm just looking for someone to review the 22 cal. barrel. I'll then use it in a different frame.
 
Sam's Custom Guns is doing liner sleeves to convert .22 barrels to .32 at $240 for that process step. Then, easier to use a center-fire K frame (from used M-14-15) than convert rim-fire to center-fire. Having the reaming of the cylinder done and everything put to together, Frank Glenn's the best for that.
 
As a follow up,, I contacted Alex Hamilton. He has noting to do with .22 to .32 barrel conversions and knew no one else doing them.
Larry, as you seem to gather we are trying to find who, for a fair price will do a sleeve liner job or re-bore job on K-22 barrels. Can you give us some more info,is this Andy Horvath currently doing the barrel conversion work,if so what is the contact info Thanks

Clearwater Reboring did the bbl, he has since passed away. When he passed away, he was over a year behind on work. Andy mounted the barrel, and completed the conversion to .32. He doesn't rebore barrels. Search Andy Horvath for contact info, he has no website. Larry
 
Evidently what ever barrel re-boring Alex Hamilton does it's not this S&W type after back and forth with emails. Also contacted most all that do barrel work found from a Google search, all just don't that S&W conversion .

With nothing between .22 to .38/.357 think would be a great market to tap into.

I guess at this point if there was a shop that knocked these things out at the expected to pay price of like $100-$150 would know about it by now. The Sam's Custom Guns price for a liner job at $240 (after first finding a N.O.S. level .22 barrel at $150) puts the cost at $390 just for the new barrel needed. For what a model 16 goes for if found maybe those costs are justifiable being he's only guy doing them?

Saw Andy last fall and contact was by phone, don't believe he has an email. He does go on the internet. He has done work on abt 7 of my guns, he is 35 minutes from me. Very nice person, doesn't say much, old fashioned for sure. He survives off his reputation and seems to stay 3 months or more behind on his work. All the good old fashioned gunsmiths are at least 6 months behind.

If someone would learn to re-bore a barrel correctly, he would have a life of work. Seems people like custom guns done the way they want. The bbl Clearwater Reboring did for me was 100.00 3 1/2 years ago and took 8 months to get it done. He fell further behind before he passed away. Larry
 
Andy's done 2 revolver jobs for me. Top notch in every way.
I'm not sure what happened to Jim Dubell's (Delta Gunshop/Clearwater Re-boring) equipment. I spoke to his wife shortly after his death and she said they hadn't decided but were considering some offers.
It seems most of the known smiths relied on Jim for their barrel boring work.
ETA: There definitely seems to be a void for handgun barrel work like Clearwater did.

Contact Jack Huntington...he just did a beautiful conversion of a Model 53 to .327 Magnum...price was very reasonable for the quality of the work done... He apparently knows someone doing the reboring as the conversion was done with the original .22 Jet barrel so it looks just like the original gun but the barrel markings have been changed.

Al Siegrist has done two for me. An old Ruger Flattop 357 to 38 WCF and a M28-2 to 38 WCF. Both 'smithed by Alan Harton in Houston. Both shoot extremely well.

I haven't had direct contact with Mr Siegrist but I did have a Winchester barrel he rebored from 32-40 to .338. It was excellent and I know he has a fine reputation in the single shot rifle community. If I were having a barrel rebored now, I'd probably check him out first.

PS Cousin Toad is absolutely right about the void left by Jim Dubell's passing. When I was organizing Project 616 the ONLY name the big boys seemed to mention for rebore work was Jim @ Clearwater.

I have no experience with this man but, he was recommended to me in my thread about
converting K22 to K32 so, I sent my barrel off to him today?
Getting pretty hard to get this kind of work done.
