I have a gunsmith screwdriver set. I think it’s Chapman. Bits are kind of flimsy and don’t stay in the handle. I’m looking for a solid set with the proper bits for a smith revolver. Something that will last a lifetime.

Wheeler, Weaver and Grace all make nice sets......just depends on whether you want magnetic tips or fixed blade. Any of those will last you a lifetime.

Forster Products also makes a fixed blade set with a nice set of handles if you don’t like wood handles like Grace.

For the range bag, I use a Wheeler Space Saver Screwdriver set. Has multiple sized screw heads.

I bought a Brownells thin bit set. It is an add on set to supplement the regular set of bits or to supplement the super set of bits sold by them in kits. The thin bit set I believe is $49.99. I find that pretty much all I need is that thin bit set and can find a perfect fitting bit from within it every time.

I do want magnetic. Wouldn’t a 50 bit set have the proper bits for the sideplate screws? I don’t want just a 4 bit set dedicated to S&W revolvers.

My vote is for the Brownell's set, hollow ground bits, magnetic handle, lifetime warranty. I believe that Brownell's still provides discounted prices for LEOs and active or retired military.

BROWNELLS MAGNA-TIP SUPER SETS™ | Brownells

If you're not sure what specific set to order, call them. Their technical support team is outstanding.

I am guessing that within the next 48-72 hours the "Black Friday" sales will kick off, big time, and you may save even more $$$$, which can easily be used for an upcoming gun purchase??!!

I've had my set for seven years and have yet to find a need for which I did not have the correct bit.

I know of "no better sets" than the one's Brownell's sells. Their Magna-tip bits along with their "law enforcement" handle is the way to go and they do have a dedicated S&W 4 or 5 bit set. They carry a lifetime warranty and are far better better than the Grace set IMO. I find the Grace set is too brittle and other times too soft which leaves me to believe their heat treating is inconsistent. I believe Brownell's bits are made by Apex which are IMO the finest bits (American made too) you can get! I have no confirmation on that, but I own many Apex bits & tools and they look, perform and last just the same as the Apex.

Another vote for MagnaTip set from Brownell's.
Heck, get yourself a hollow handled dedicated bit kit for the range bag too. Very handy!

I use the Chapman gunsmith set. I've found it to be of high quality. Some of the bits are softer as to not damage the heads on frozen screws. I just keep replacements for those. The extra bits are very inexpensive.

Reminds me I have that S&W stainless steel pocket knife with that screw driver blade. Looks like it's just for sight adjustment though.

So the brownells magna tip looks like the ticket. But which bits in the 22 bit set are for the sideplate, thumb latch, strain screw, etc. are the bits labeled?i see brownells sells a dedicated 4 bit screwdriver for S&W revolvers, but some reviews aren’t as good and if the magna tip set has those bits I’d rather have that.

I believe the 22 bit set has the bits included with the S&W set, but I'm sure they're specifically listed in the description of each set, and it would be an easy cross check.

Thanks. What I mean is, is there a label in the hole that the bit sits in while in the box?
