convert 22lr to 22mag

Realize that convertible .22LR and .22 Mag revolvers like Ruger have a slightly larger bore size than the early guns made for .22LR only. The .22 Mag bore size is slightly larger than .22LR.

That was my first thought too.

The bore size is a complete no issue. A .224 bullet instantly becomes bore sized with no issue at all. Lot less than a 454 colt bullet hitting a .452 barrel or a .430 44 mag bullet hitting a .429 barrel.

THINK ABOUT IT. Just the lands have to displace x amount of material. I would bet that a soft lead .222 bullet would touch the bottom of .224 grooves by the time the .218-.219 lands got done squeezing it. A .224 bullet in a .222 barrel would just get a tiny bit longer.

Besides that I actually measured a bunch of different 22 lr ammo and most of it measures .224 anyway.

S&W cylinders, both 22 lr and 22 mag show up on Ebay all the time.

here is my dual set up
A 22lr and 22 mag cylinder fit to a model 18 I round butted and stuck a 22 jet barrel on

I put a new m-648 cylinder assembly on my 17-2 . It needed some fitting that I didn’t want to do ,so I had a gunsmith do it . It was an easy fitting and he charged an extremely reasonable labor charge . Accuracy is fantastic.

looking for gunsmith recommendations to convert 22lr revolver cylinder to 22 magnum
thanks

I'd look on eBay and see if you can find a M48 cylinder. Numrich Gun Parts shows they are out of stock, but their price is $209. If you find a cylinder, get it with the extractor assembly and gas ring if possible.
