Looking for actual use of small red dot sights mounts that replace rear adjustable sights. Thinking of adding red dots to couple of my older K frames 6”. Know holes will have to be drilled and tapped. Thanks in advance.

I've got an All Chin with a Holosun 407C I mounted on my 686 as an experiment. I've been happy with it. It fits the K frame and larger. That sight might be larger than you're looking for, but there are other sight options on their site.

Added: IIRC, I did have to replace the red dot's mounting screws due to different threads in the All Chin. I'll check my notes at home and get back later.

Red dot sights, like all optics, add weight and bulk.
Worse yet, the mounts used for them raise the line of sight significantly above the bore. Weaver mounts are terrible in this regard.
In general, they take a big chunk out of your gun’s inherent ergonomics.
With that in mind, if someone is still committed, I personally think the finest option is the German-made “DOCTER” red dot sight. It is very solid, better made than most other red dot options.

Oliver Heuer makes a low-line sight mount for the S&W K & L
frame for use with the Docter sight.

Look up “Jagd & Sportwaffen Oliver Heuer”.

+1 for the Allchin mount--I have one on a 327 TRR and it is far superior to the factory mount. Be sure to specify the exact rds you plan to use--I had to send back a mount because I clicked on the "wrong" model. Allchin was very prompt and pain free in replacing the mount, IIRC all it cost me was the return shipping.
