    1952 production .22

What kind of polishing/blueing does it have? I've got a '52 with a more of a satin finish. But I also had a 17-1 with a beautiful high polish. I would think the high polish finish would add value. I payed $700 for my '52, 95%, no box, couple years ago.

Age bracket recent .44 mag buyers

Can't believe I'm in my 70s (71) never thought I'd get this old. Anyway, love the vintage 29s, late '50s early '60s. I was super lucky to come across a 29ND (1960) but my shooter is the 629-4 5", a joy to shoot.

What's the best alternative to 5.56 for an AR-15?

You didn't have the new kids on the block listed, 35 Legend and 6ACR. But I have to say I'm surprised with all the 7.62x39votes. And guess what the Grendel is, an improved 7.62x39. Guess which caliber I voted for? All this discussion just proves the AR platform is verisitile and can be used...

    CZ 75 Compact

Love the 75 design. I'm luck to have a Shadow 2 SA and Tanfo 10mm. Surprisingly the Tanfo is the better shooter and the Shadow is no slouch.

    Your “COOLEST” gun?

Something old and a new, well older and newer anyway. My 29ND and Tanfoglio 10mm.

    Next calibre for FPC?

I just finished my first PCC. I went with the 9 mm, why cost of ammo, plain and simple. My first choice was the 10mm but ammo cost is double. I think the 5.7 would be a great PCC with virtually no recoil but then you're right back to cost of ammo.

    If you had to shoot a Black Bear;

I have a cabin in northern WI. with a very healthy bear population. Never had a problem with any of them. Mostly it's you go one way they go the other. Spring time is different, after a long winter and they're hungry be careful when foods around. I used to carry a 44 but last couple years...

    WTB/WTT Mod. 48 4-Screw

Been patiently waiting for the gun gods to send me a nice Mod 48, preferably 8-3/8" barrel. Anybody out there considering to let one go? For trade: 629-4 5", very good condition, great shooter no box.

    629-4

Looking at the evolution and design improvements I think the 629-4 is arguably the pinnacle 44 Magnum. Here's a pic of my -4 5". Love the balance of the 5". Also, an unexpected no dash 29 which I was lucky enough to come across.

    Model 60 no dash

Something isn't right. The triple alpha serial numbers didn't start until 1980. A no dash model 60 would range from '65-'72

Boy Scouts: How far did you get?

Many fond memories of scouting. My brother, two years older than me, joined the Boy Scouts back in the mid-sixties. I just could get the Morse code memorized, why I didn't make first class. Looking back I consider Scouting as one of my major character building experiences.

    17-1 worth a look?

In 2016 I came across locally, a 17-1, its what got me into S&Ws. It was in ANIB condition, matching serial #s on the grips and original box w/tools. Like new. Well, I sold I it against the advise of many members here on the forum. They were right now I regret selling it. Got $1000 for it...

    Cleaning handgun with Ultra Sonic

I've got a small cleaner that works good for small parts. I put a couple inches of water in the tank and put the parts in a plastic food tray filled with WD-40. The tray keeps the water and tank clean. The WD-40 and ultra-sonic does a great job of melting the gook off.

    629-3 5in. Barrel.

No, it's factory finish. I have cleaned it up best I can. When I bought it there were some handling marks I polished out. I use a gray scotch brite pad, it's a very very fine grit pad. Not using a lot of pressure a little wd40 and being careful to use a polishing stroke in the same...
