459 with "DEAD TRIGGER" probable cause?

Probably not the disconnector. When you remove the magazine, what happens is a plastic plunger under the backsight (left side) pushes down on the ejector which in turn pushes down on the disconnector which in turn pushes down on the drawbar which disengages the drawbar from the sear and prevent...

    400x/404x Adj Sight Question

Italian made by LPA, TPU Series adjustable sight for S&W 9mm/.40 3rd gens. Fusion Firearms is the U.S. Distributor. Judging by the finish damage and punch marks, I'd say that was not installed by the factory. Those TPU and TR series sights were quite common on a lot of PC guns. I know of no...

Turning a 3rd gen safety to decock only

You need a spring loaded decock body to replace the manual safety body. The spring loaded decock body has a clockspring wound onto it that engages with a modification on the slide to enable the automatic return to fire position. The slide requires a small 1/8" end mill cut about 0.050"...

ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE BEST TOOLS ANY GUNSMITH (or amateur) CAN EVER OWN!

I have an Optivisor kit with the full selection of lenses and the little lamp. Haven't used it in at least a decade. What I do use are these safety readers by Pyramex. Must have a dozen or more pairs stashed all over the place. There's a couple by the mill, some over at that lathe and some...

    Difference in 4506 and 4506-1

Bear in mind a later production "wide hood" barrel can be fitted with some very minor machining to narrow the tab. If you want a unused brand new barrel that is all you're going to find. Cheers Bill

    Smith and Wesson Refinishing Services

Sure, just on stainless though. I'm not equipped for blueing or blackening carbon steel beyond some minor touchup. I use a mixed media of glass + aluminum oxide at 120-170 mesh size. There's a thread about testing blast media here somewhere and that stuff most closely replicates the factory...

    Difference in 4506 and 4506-1

That "slot" behind the feedramp is a saw cut done on a mill with a slitting saw to establish the angle of the camming lugs. Such a barrel with that saw cut is likely to only fit in a 645 or maybe some few early stepped frame no-dash 4506 guns. I have a pair of those transitional no-dash...

    Smith and Wesson Refinishing Services

Stamped or Rolled marks are no issue. Any other markings, such as the "billboard" on the TSW guns are laser etched. Any media blasting will wash out the laser etched marks. Those laser marks cannot be re-applied. The heat from the laser etching process hardens the steel to a greater degree...

    Any FAL experts

The recoil reducer is not a blank firing attachment. This particular muzzle device was made in Lithgow but never saw service in the Australian military. These were specifically made for the Malayan contract rifles. Quoted from pg 37 of Skennerton's book... "Most of the Malayan contract...

Wow! Zombie thread resurrected from the great beyond:D getting bombed with likes. Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm still wrenching on stuff, just renewed my FFL and just bought a new lathe. Actually that was the second new lathe in as many weeks. The first one wasn't capable of a specific threading...

    S&W 659 with SAO4 Trijicon

Here ya go... Before, less the blade obviously:rolleyes: And after. Since the steel under there is kinda thin, I made the cut a close slip fit and secured the sight with high strength retaining compound (Loctite 680)... Cheers Bill

I have never seen any 10xx model where the slide has been factory machined to accept a spring loaded decock body. Not sayin' there couldn't be any out there just that I've never seen any 'cept for those I machined myself. ;) Cheers Bill
