Ren wax on metal, Scott's Liquid Gold on wood stocks.

    Dogs again

Yes, shoot the dog if you are in danger and an attack seems imminent. Do not fire warning shots, shoot the dog. Co-worker of mine just had a very similar issue. His dogs are penned outside at night. At 4AM he hears a racket at the kennel and grabs a 12 gauge and flashlight to investigate...

    S&W 1500 howa 222 rem. heavy barrel

I have a 1500 in .30-06. Not my most accurate rifle, but I have had it since 1982 and it has taken a lot of game. Oh yeah, .222 is one of my favorite calibers to reload.

Model 64-5 factory dao, convert to sa/da

Unless it is an heirloom, I would just sell it and buy what you want/need. Someone will want it as is and you will spend less in the long run. I have a 2" DAO 64-6 and really like it. It works real well in a jacket pocket for quick trips to the store without the hammer spur.

    Favorite Road Trip Gun?

You hit mine right on the head. Mine is a Glock 27, with only the .40 barrel. That is unless I am headed to a hunting camp, then it's a 686-0 or model 29-2.

    1moondog A++

1moondog is a great forum member to do business with. I sent him a money order for some Ahrend's stocks and he shipped them the same day he received the MO. I received the stocks in a week from nearly coast to coast. Thanks 1moondog

    SW 686 good defense ammo

Full power .357 magnum ammo will certainly work, but indoors it will be real hard on the ears and may have a blinding flash after the first round goes off. In revolvers I use the Speer 135gr. short barrel .38 Special +P or the Speer 135gr. Short Barrel .357 load. That .357 load is pretty mild...

Holster for 66 Snubbie - what do you use?

I frequently carry a 2 1/2" model 66-5 when off-duty. I have a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster for it that I really like.

    S&W 686-4 4" Price Check?

I'd say that one is worth $650 around these parts. Did he say if that 2" group at 15 yards was standing off-hand? My 686 no dash will shoot right at an 1" off of a sandbag rest with the right hand load when I do my part.

    Holster recommendation?

Some good recommendations above. I have a Simply Rugged sourdough pancake holster for my 2 1/2" K frames that I really like.

    Gun shop find today

Nice 15-3, congrats. I bought a 2" model 15-2 from a very close friend and retired former co-worker a few months back. He passed three weeks ago. Yeah, that 15 has become a treasured possession.

Opinions please: Should I buy this Model 19-5? NEW PICS

I think you did well. That should be a great shooter. Go forth and shoot the heck out of it.

    Model 29-2 6.5" vs 8 3/8" Price Check

Very nice pd1964. I have a 6 1/2" 29-2, but it is not in the condition that your's is in. Mine is a shooter that accompanies me any time I am camping in bear country. Like yfdcap said, bring that beauty on down to Arizona and we'll do some shooting. Congrats,

    Best 38 +P round .

It appears that Target Sports still has the Speer 135gr +P short barrel load in stock. Price listed is $19.99 for the 50 round box. Heck, that is a plinking ammo price these days. I bought 6 boxes a few weeks back.

    Bought a 66-2 Snubbie Today.

    Very nice. I have had similar problems finding a 2 1/2" P&R model 19 for a price I will pay. Since my search started a few years back I have bought the following, and still haven't found the 19 I seek: - 2 1/2" 66-2 (ANIB safe queen, with box/papers/kit) - 2 1/2" 66-5 (now my off-duty EDC) -...

    Model 19-3

Dave, The hot 125 and 110 grain .357 magnum ammo is hard on the K frame .357 forcing cones. Some have cracked over the years. There have been many strings regarding this in this and other forums by some very knowledgeable folks. Enjoy, Jeff

Ballistics on .40 S&W Remington HTP ammo?

That Remington 155 grain was good ammo. I carried it on duty for a number of years. The one drawback was that it had a pretty bright flash at night compared to the Winchester Ranger and Federal HST we were issued later.

    Wierd open-carry experience

The only time I open carry is when I am not planning on going into stores, or other businesses. I live in a rural setting and I do open carry to and from the range and work (LEO), hiking, scouting for big game, hunting predators, or other time spent outdoors. I do carry a cover shirt in the...
