    .38 S&W a bit of history

I like .38 S&W, been looking for one of the ".380 Rim" over run Ruger Service Sixes for awhile now. I remember finding a WWII era Webley .38 in a house in Iraq with a handful of old rounds, along with some kind of membership card for a pistol club or something. I didn't know you needed any kind...

Attacked by Pitbull.. What would you do?

I was in a similar scenario about a month ago.......the house across the street is no doubt a meth lab, and they have a pit bull. It has, numerous times, charged at me on my own property. I have already snapped on the owner pretty bad, one day it happened when I was probably having one of the...

Model 27 Front Sight - Can't See It

+1 for Testor's red paint........I have two bottles floating around somewhere, you get them for like $1.50 at any big hardware store. One bottle would probably last a lifetime. If it wears off just reapply. It's the "poor man's red insert" front sight:) I have a good many old police and...

    Like .38 spl. Rugers?

Policerevolvercollector I used to own that CCH marked .38 Service Six:) Do you own that one or just using the pic? I bought 5 of them in a "lot", I used to carry that one quite a bit. The red paint on the front sight was added by me. The remaining 4 are also stamped CCH, and these all seem to...

Slow timing on one cylinder - can fix?

If you have the skills, I'd go with the peening method. I'm also kinda OCD with the carryup of my revolvers, I have a few Smiths that "just" click into full lockup, before the hammer reaches SA cocking or the hammer drops in DA......with cases in the chambers with moderate speed DA and SA. It...

Wanted - 9mm Snubby - Are Taurus Revolvers Really That Bad?

If you really want a 9mm revolver for carry, get a 9mm LCR...... If it's a range toy, get a 9mm Ruger Blackhawk. Both are just a little more $$$ than a Taurus and you'll save the headaches. When you buy a gun for defense.......ask yourself 2 questions...would you bet the lives of your loved...

Single Action Revolvers for Self Defense?

Saying "if Bob Munden or Jerry Miculek can do it, a single action is perfectly fine for defense" is like saying "if Derek Jeter can crush an 87 mph curve out of the park so can I"........these people are not only highly gifted "naturals" but also eat, breathe and sleep their chosen sport and...

    Fell for a GP100

I bought some cargo pants with a larger waist so I can comfortably IWB carry my 4" GP100's in a good thumb break holster. Carrying small is convenient but today I was in a remote area with my Beretta .25 and wished I had something with punch......like my 4" GP100......

    Practice w/EDC

The best way to train with my NAA .22 Mini is to practice drawing and cocking it, not so much shooting. Other than that I try to shoot my carry revolvers as much as possible.

    Avoiding Confrontation

Just be polite and keep to yourself, if someone comes at you looking for trouble then respond in turn. You can't shoot someone because you started a fight and realized you're losing.....

Single Action Revolvers for Self Defense?

A few SF guys in Vietnam carried personally owned Blackhawks......but then they also probably had 2 or 3 other weapons on them they would have used first. Probably more for the fact was the Blackhawk didn't really need much maintenance and would give them 6 .357's as a get off me gun. No...

Has the threat of Islamic terror affected your thoughts on carry?

I spent a year hunting these "jihadists" in Iraq, they don't really have any real heart or the will for a toe to toe fight with armed Americans. They will, as they did over there, resort to bombings and other cowardly acts. I was there from 2007-08, our guys who were there earlier pretty much...

    Loose cylinder on a model 28-2 6in

Define "slop", S&W's for the most part, all have some sideplay on lockup. If it spits lead, then it's out of spec and unsafe. What kind of spitting issues does it have? Make sure it's not just spitting carbon or just doesn't like certain ammo, i.e. LRN or some certain brands of ammo may do...

    Like .38 spl. Rugers?

I love them, and have many of them:) Some of my favorites are my 4" .38 Special GP100's and my NYPD .38 Service Six DAO. Also have a GPNY and several security trade in .38 Service Sixes. My nightstand gun right now is a 4" blue half lug .38 GP100 loaded with Golden Saber .38 +P. One of my...

Any Wheel Guns in the Holster's of LEO's today.

That old NYPD Sarge like was said probably dug out his old duty gear and 10 to work some OT, he probably wears that stuff a handful of times a year. He probably packs a Glock 26 as a duty weapon normally.

    LNIB model 10 value guesstamate

It's a dilemma, older 10's even in NIB condition aren't going to be something to retire on........maybe in 10 years it will be a $1,000 gun in today's dollars but IMO a $700 profit over a decade isn't Earth shaking. Collectors will always want NIB or High Condition Registered Magnums, 29's...

my new 28-2 is a hot mess(warning to purists)

That was probably a "hot setup" back in 1981, when the work was probably done.....looks like someone re-did what was probably a thrashed police gun. Keep in mind up until recent years you couldn't give away a 28, they were the "poor man's 27" but now the prices jumped up. I honestly don't...

Single Action Revolvers for Self Defense?

Exactly why I do NOT like SA revolvers for self defense:) Personal preference is everything......lots of people hate trigger shoes too but some of my revolvers have them, they are for range use but I have carried my Speed Six that has a shoe on it, a mortal sin to some people lol Most people...

WHEN YOUR BETTING YOUR LIFE UPON IT

.44 Magnum, because shooting twice is just plain silly:) There are no real good choices for autos in hand cannon calibers besides Desert Eagle, AMT and wierd stuff like LAR.......so when I need hip artillery like .357, .44 and .454 I'll stay with my wheelguns.

Single Action Revolvers for Self Defense?

Fanning an SA revolver is a good way to beat it to death, maybe a Ruger SA could survive more of it but those stop notches and internal mechanisms will eventually get beat up. Those guys who do it for show have specially worked over guns. I would guess more people who carry an SA for defense...
