I had the same question. My 4006tsw only had 30 rounds through it, then I put 100 more. When I cleaned it I noticed some wear on the outside of the barrel too. I think it is normal...

I believe it was an extra option for the rail. I know that most of the Police depts don't have it on them (probably to save some $ and so it won't snag on anything), but I wanted it. It took me forever to find one.

Thanks for the welcome. I have enjoyed my time here so far. Yeah, it took me a LONG TIME to find mine with the rail on it. I still can't seem to find any when I browse around on the web. I'm lucky I got it, and even more lucky to have gotten one with only 30 rounds through it!

My Dad has a 639. I love that gun so much! The design, the way it shoots, I wanted one too, but I decided to get the 4006tsw so I could have the .40. I compared them the other day and they look very similar. Excellent gun. Post pictures if you get it!
