    Congresswoman shot in AZ

Wow. Really bad. Hoping for the best for the survivors - and swift justice for the killer.

    What's better than a Springfield XD-40?

I'll toss one more pistol out there for consideration: the FNP .45. My brother has the 9mm version, and he likes it. On paper, I like the DA/SA action and external hammer and high capacity... but it's a pretty big gun. My brother lives half way across the country; I've never seen or handled...

    What's better than a Springfield XD-40?

Thanks again, everyone. I really wish we had a local range where I could rent some of these pistols, but I don't know of anything like that around here. I'm not seeing a lot of the dislike for the .40 like I've seen other places on the internet. The .45 sounds like a solid choice. I've got a...

    What's better than a Springfield XD-40?

Thanks for all the replies. I wish I lived closer to the store (a three hour trip to the in-laws) - I'd be able to check out all my options. As it is, I'm not sure what they'll have in stock or when I'll go. How much different is the "striker-fired" XD than the dual-action of my Sigma...

    What's better than a Springfield XD-40?

I know it's a loaded question, but here's the story: Earlier this week, I found out that I won a Springfield XD-40 in a raffle. Whenever I go to pick up the pistol, I will have the option of getting anything else in the store - up to the value of the XD. Initially, I was concerned about what...

    Nite-Sights on 5906 Dim

Where would one find luminescent paint? My LE trade-in 5906's dots are pretty worn out. You just paint the dots with a brush or something?

Tell me about Hogue (or other) wooden grips for 3rd Gen...

Thanks, 8th. Do the grips on your 3913 seem a lot thicker than stock? I think your 3913 is already skinnier than the 5906, but do you notice the difference with the wooden grips? Was an adapter needed to install them? If so, how does that thing work? Fits in the frame - attached to...

Odd markings on new to me 5906

Did it come with straight back grips, or do you just prefer them?

Tell me about Hogue (or other) wooden grips for 3rd Gen...

I have a 5906 with worn factory grips. Might or might not replace them. Hogue makes wooden grips for the pistol, but I've read that they make the gun feel fatter. If that's true, does anyone know how much fatter? I'm sure comfort is a matter of individual preference, but is it really, really...

    First post: SW 5906 v. SW9VE???

Strange coincidence. My new 5906 is also a police trade-in (Detroit). Grip is definitely worn, but the rest of the gun looks new. Price: $325.

    First post: SW 5906 v. SW9VE???

Well... I just shot my SW9VE again this afternoon. I'm still leaning toward keeping the 5906, but the long trigger pull on the Sigma didn't seem to be as bad as I remember. I was also shooting a Taurus DA-only .22 semi-auto; the trigger pull on that thing is a lot worse than the Sigma...

    First post: SW 5906 v. SW9VE???

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like the 5906 is a keeper. I haven't even looked to see what used Sigmas go for around here, but if they're not worth much, maybe I'll just keep it. I shouldn't, but maybe... I think you guys might be a bad influence...

    Factory S&W 5906 wood grips???

Those are very nice looking grips. I'm toying with the idea of replacing the one's on my recently purchased (LE trade-in) 5906 - they're pretty worn. I was thinking I would just go OEM black (if I even replace them), but these "wooden" ones look really nice - are they available anywhere?

    First post: SW 5906 v. SW9VE???

Thanks, mikeruns. Realistically, I shouldn't keep both (it's the money). I have a .38 to use if a second gun is needed - and shotguns in the house. Out of the two guns, if I could only keep one, would the SW9VE or the 5906 the better choice?

    First post: SW 5906 v. SW9VE???

Thanks, deanodog and roaddog28. I wish I could keep both of them, but the most practical thing to do, from a financial standpoint, is to limit myself to one. Sounds like you both like the Sigmas enough. Maybe I shouldn't have jumped at the 5906, but I've seen some very good reviews on them -...

    First post: SW 5906 v. SW9VE???

Just found this site - looks like a good one. I've owned a SW9VE for a few years. I like that it's light and that it's simple. I don't like that it's DA only - and in my hands - that makes it not as accurate as I would like. I just picked up a used 5906 - great shape (except for the grip)...
