What's better than a Springfield XD-40?

Thanks again, everyone. I really wish we had a local range where I could rent some of these pistols, but I don't know of anything like that around here. I'm not seeing a lot of the dislike for the .40 like I've seen other places on the internet. The .45 sounds like a solid choice. I've got a couple 9mm - don't really need or want another.

I probably won't make the drive down for a few weeks - I'll let you all know what I pick up. In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming...

I'll toss one more pistol out there for consideration: the FNP .45.

My brother has the 9mm version, and he likes it. On paper, I like the DA/SA action and external hammer and high capacity... but it's a pretty big gun. My brother lives half way across the country; I've never seen or handled his FNP - or any FNP pistol. Any opinions on this one in .45?
