Has my 14-3 been modified to take .357?

It gets even more interesting when you measure a Model 12 cylinder and a Model 19-5 cylinder and compare them to all the above . Some are longer at the front, some are longer at the rear.

Is anyone out there still able to convert a Model 28 to 44 Special?

If you can live with a 4" barrel why not just buy one of the new Lipseys 4" no lock stainless steel .44 Mountain guns ? Will have a factory warranty and probably cost less. Msrp is $1199.00

Has my 14-3 been modified to take .357?

Actually the Model 15-5 , 15-6 and 15-7 changed to the wide rib Model 14 barrel available in 4",6" and 8,3/8" and the Model 14 got a new full underlug barrel in 4" and 6" ( not sure about 8,3/8") Shown below are a wide rib 15-7 Left and a full underlug 14-6 Right.

Has my 14-3 been modified to take .357?

S&W made a very small run of 4" Model 14-3 revolvers in that serial range, I have your guns twin 1k74318 shipped July 1971 from the same run, (Might have been to a distributor in Tx or for Ashland cant recall and unfortunately theres nothing more in my notes). Iirc there were a couple members...

    The .357 Magnum Turns 90

A SS retro Reg Mag would really be as simple as using the 629 Mountain gun barrel profile and simply boring the barrel and cylinder for .357 and checkering the top straps. If they want to go the extra mile fit them with pre war style Magnas and toss a stainless copy of the pre war grip adapter...

Finally Found My 3.5" .357 Magnum - after a long search

Congrats on the new acquisition! The 3.5" N frame .357 is Luca Brazzi approved. It is interesting that while much smaller .357's exist the big N frame with short barrel is the one most sought after especially since it is better suited as a target gun. Iirc the 3.5" and 5" were not produced in...

    Model 19-3 Details?

It's fun to speculate these scenarios, IIRC the ATF advised SW that having older non serial numbered spare frames in the vault was technically illegal (at least that's how I heard it went) and that rather than toss them they were just serial numbered in the then current range, If that was...

    Model 67 questions

Wondering if the gas ring is on the yoke or the cylinder? Guessing yours is 1973 and the gas ring is on the cylinder. Just picked up a 1975ish serial 6K9x,xxx Model 15-3 and it's on the yoke.

    Picked up a 1960 model 15 today SN K424353

My closest serial numbers are a tad higher and lower but both shipped in 1961. The number on the heel might be a "Rack number" or property control number added by the agency.

    Model 19-3 Details?

Hard to tell looking from above, Need to see it with cylinder open showing it's relationship to the forcing cone edge. Pretty safe bet the 2 is a typo. Only way that could have been a dash 2 is if you take the "1" and move it to the far right of the serial number.

    Model 19-3 Details?

I would check that one again, way too late to be a dash 2.

Correct rear sight assembly for model 14-6?

The different heights are for different barrel lengths, if you just need to replace your rear sight blade just measure the old one, Iirc they sell it with or without the hardware, I'd recommend get it with the screw etc, If you need the whole rear leaf you have bigger issues, Just pulled my...

    Model 67 questions

If it has the Stainless rear site it makes it a tad bit more collectable, Basicly a SS version of the Model 15-3 ( I recently purchased a high condition 15-3 from a local shop for $459 otd). The V stamp (sometimes an S iirc) identified that it was Stainless steel not carbon steel in the raw so...

Pre 17 dilemma. Which would you keep?

Im finding it difficult to detect a refinish. Is it my imagination or is the top one in the pic of them together missing the rear sight ?

    Earliest Stainless Steel S&W Revolvers

The initial run of model 60's had SS internals which resulted in gauling. They changed to the case colored ones briefly then to the flash chromed style prior to the introduction of the model 64 and 66 in 1970. No standard production SS K frames had stainless internals they were introduced with...

    Earliest Stainless Steel S&W Revolvers

While I don't not know if the Model 64 or Model 66 was introduced first or if they shipped at the same time IIRC the earliest Model 66's had high K9xx,xxx serials, this leads me to believe those early ones were likely produced in late 1969 which would make sense if they began shipping in early 1970.

    38/44 Outdoorsman turned poor man’s 3.5 inch non-RM

Have this 1954 short action pre Model 23 that wears a 4" Reg Mag barrel and KB large medallion grips. Reminds me that I need to find an N frame barrel end ejector rod for it if anyone has a drawer full of spares .😀

The only one - A 4" K-22 target revolver Stainless steel Model 65

A few random thoughts, First, my understanding is that while pure Stainless is harder on tools etc SW learned the ins and outs in the 1960's and made several changes to their original SS revolver the Model 60 including the internal parts material as well as metallurgy, these issues were ironed...

New to me 1951 K22 Masterpiece Pre 17

Very nice K22 , Iirc the short lived plastic SW stock medalions would exist in that serial range due to brass shortages related to the Korean conflict so not as easy to replace the stocks with a correct pair. Im guessing a member asked about it having a "B" stamp because of how shiney it looks...

The only one - A 4" K-22 target revolver Stainless steel Model 65

Very nice and super rare K22 ! I remember hearing that this rare specimen existed sometime about 16 years ago , also heard a very small amount of stainless Model marked 15 (-2?) existed as well that were built for some small island PD IIRC. The original Ashland Model 617 without underlug was...
