Sometimes a lightweight j-frame is all that is practical

A 3" gun might be a little long for some pockets.

What would be a good home defence gun

Skeez, FWIW, dead flesh is, as I am lead to understand, quite different from living flesh. The liquid settles out. I don't doubt at all that the slug you shot the deer with penetrated like a mother. I think most slugs would. The three I tested in P-G indicated as a group, that yes, you are...

What would be a good home defence gun

Not necessarily true at all. When I fired Winchester X12RS15 into Perma-Gel it stopped at 15". That's deep, but barely excessive penetration. As for "dutch loading" weapons, I think it would be unlikely to keep track of which type of cartridge is "on deck" so I only use one type of ammo in a...

    Some .38 Special Chronograph Tests

My guess is that he's mixing powders with different burn rates and/or he's running closer to max pressure. Whatever the case, the cat has his crap together.

What would be a good home defence gun

Unless you shoot him first. When investigating something use a handgun. When it comes down to fighting, it would be foolish to use a handgun in most situations when the power and shootability of a long gun are available. If one were to only have one gun, then yes, it should be a handgun. As...

Want to start reloading... Suggestions for beginner

The Lee turret is what I use. I shoot between 25 and 50 rds. of handgun ammo a week. The auto index rod can be removed and the press then can be used as a single stage. I'm very happy with my press. The LTP is also quite affordable.

    Have prices topped out?

Much that was hard to find is now available and prices have improved. This month I bought 1360 rounds of rifle ammo, 100 rds. 00 buck, 4000 bullets, 3 lbs. of gun powder and 4000 primers. If you don't want to start a thread crying about how you can't find ammo and someone bought too many boxes...

22 Mag for back up concealed carry.

I'll take the .22 mag. TNTs I use in my Black Widow over any .22 long rifle by a longshot. IIRC, that cartridge went through four layers of denim/Perma-Gel expanded beautifully to .32" and penetrated ~9" deep. That gun is also scary accurate, half the weight of a P3AT and even easier to hide.

Something so small I can carry it in my hand

Good advice above. Use a holster. An airweight J frame such as you have is small and light. I would suggest not using anything smaller and lighter, but if you're determined to, the Kel-tec P3AT and P32 would be worth considering. Once again though, I wouldn't want to have to defend myself with...

22 Mag for back up concealed carry.

If it's a primary, get a bigger cartridge. If you're hiding a .22 mag. that size as a BUG, the same applies. As far as the ammo goes, I've had nothing but 100% sure ignition with the .22 mag. TNTs I use in my NAA Black Widow. I carry that gun as a deep concealment BUG, or a third gun when not...

    Hornady Critical Defense .357mag

check the velocity. If it's a hot 1450 fps./4" barrel load, then yes, I would think it would be possible to damage a K frame (split forcing cone) with excessive use. I would just run something heavier, or use 125 gr. ammo sparingly.

Concealing a handgun in a book

Could I suggest that from the moment you wake to the moment you hit the rack, it's on you and super concealed. While sleeping it's in a book, ect. and when you awake, it's back on your person. Don't even let a room mate know you have it! Good luck and don't get caught!

I have a holster rig question?

My friend from Ohio makes a very good point! Look at the old westerners who were townspeople. Their get ups were generally different than cowboys. Many carried pistols in specially lined pockets. No double gun belts for them. Times have changed and so has the equipment. I carry multiple guns...

Poll: How do you carry in the woods?

I nearly always carry the same guns in the same places. One in each front pocket and when not at work I put a full size revolver IWB strong side.

    38spl Ammo...Why So Much Junk?

This will likely stir some people up, but I'm going to say it anyway. Big ammo is a rip off. I carry handloads in several of my guns and eventually will faze out factory ammo altogether. I trust my ammo more than theirs and it's a lot less expensive. YMMV. Obviously you've figured it out. A...

Info needed on 158 grain soft point .357

jonno, welcome to the forum. Have you tried the Sierra 140 gr. JHP? If so what do you think of that bullet? Corbon loads a .357 JHP load with it and it sounds like a good one, although I haven't tried it (I'd rather handload than pay for overpriced ammo). My experience has been that Sierra...

    "AirLite recoil problems" update

Elizabeth, you might want to check out the NAA Black Widow when time, money, ect. allow. It is very mild to shoot. with the smaller magnum mini revolver sized grips, it is far more concealable than a J frame. I carry one as a second or third gun all the time. I wouldn't advise a .22 anything as...
